Cam haters, what could we realistically get in a trade for Cam?

The wild card here is Newton's shoulder. If it turns out to have significant damage by the end of this season, the concept of parting ways with him becomes very real.

How do you know if his shoulder has permanent long term damage? That would be a guessing game.

Gotta go by what the doctors say.

I've got a bad feeling he's headed for another offseason surgery. Even if it goes well, that's not good.

I disagree if we treat it serious and don't rush him back, he could bounce back and regain his full arm strength. Treat it like the Colts did with Luck. Luck bounced back and people thought his career was over with the way he took a pounding early in his career.

Cam is too valuable to waste the prime of his career. I say shut him down and I would seriously consider sitting him out all of next year.

How much do you trust Ron Rivera to do that, especially when his job is on the line?

Rivera has refused to sit Cam down for meaningless games even when his future wasn't up in the air. I have a hard time buying that he'll do it now.

Not saying we will do it, just saying if I was in charge that would be my priority.

Sit him rest of the year sure. Sit him next season no way.  Not when he has 2 years left in his contract and who would be the starter next year?

Don’t know the Giants/Jags cap situation or what their future picks look like, but I could see them being teams that MIGHT be interested...with OBJ in his prime yrs, they might not want to wait on a rookie QB...Bortles is trash and they appeared to be a QB away from being dominant last year...then again maybe they can’t afford this, I dunno...but when I think of a team that might have a high pick in the draft who also might be willing to trade for Cam, they were the only teams I could see doing it...most other teams are either rebuilding, just drafted a Qb or wouldn’t make sense for wanting Cam

The Jags signed Bortles to a decent sized contract through 2020. they could sure use a quarterback with the visibility of Newton for marketing purposes, but I don't know if they could make it work cap wise.

As to the Giants, all I know is if the Panthers traded Newton to Gettleman, this board would go ape sh-t like you've never seen :)

If the new GM and scouts feel there is a franchise QB available in the 1st round, if you can move Newton for two 1sts, probably in the offseason before 2020, you do it and don't think twice.  A lot of teams are making hay with a QB on a rookie contract and the cap space that gets you surrounding them.  You especially can't ink Cam to a larger deal with his chronic health problems.

The same posters here saying "you can never trade cam!!!" will be the first ones, in 2020/2021 saying "Rivera bad-man ruined Cam's shoulder five years ago!  I said so at the time!"
