You all are really overestimating the chances Ron is gone

Good stuff, thanks for the link....hadn't heard about this before.

That said, on the face of it only a 1-in-13 chance Tepper was one of "some of the team's limited partners" who were purportedly doing the lobbying...

...and, knowing a bit about (a) Tepper's temperament and (b) outside interests/responsibilities I'd put odds of him being part of that group at exactly -- z-e-r-o.

#NotTeppsStyle

That “silent minority” of owners could have taken it to the Supreme Court and it wouldn’t have mattered. Unless your last name is Rooney, or Colbert, you don’t get a say in head coach. For a very good reason.

That's the difference between you and a "self made billionaire" like Tepper....

....he is able to remove emotion from the equation not fall prey to the snap decisions (which are generally bad) that lesser managers/owners are prone to make.

#RowboatsSafe

He’s not safe at all. Tepper is not going to accept mediocrity from people he didn’t choose. He may be loyal to the first ones he hires, but this could have happened last year if the sale went through 3 months earlier. And been justified. Now it’s an absolute necessary.

Spot on.

Put another way, you are saying that attempted power move was a losing bet....and, it was a VERY simplistic situation, immediately apparent to you (and me) and many others....David Tepper would never make a bet as stupid as that one.

#ToomersNailedIt

I’m saying that the article is of no consequence and has nothing to do with our current state as an organization or any decisions Tepper will make here on out. Because he hasn’t had any power at all. Now he has it all.

So I have no idea what I nailed?

Team is likely going to finish 8-8 or 9-7.

Too many of you are prisoners of the moment.  Coaches don't get fired after going 11-5 one year and then putting up a .500 or better record the next.  It just doesn't happen outside of rare circumstances.  Fox out of Denver was the only one I can think of recently, and that had a whole host of extenuating circumstances tied up in that.

Much more likely that Hurney is let go, and a months long GM search is conducted with Ron left in place to steer the ship, and then if he doesn't perform up to expectations in 2019, the new GM can then easily let him go and find his own man.

Mike McCarthy only had 1 losing season in 12 years and won a super bowl and got fired mid season

No coach is safe in perpetuity, that's for sure....but I believe The Rower will get the start in 2019.

Have to go do a few things but will return shortly and provide a primer in how Tepper thinks/evaluates/invests...and why this portends for Rowboat being the head coach starting the 2019 season.

Will be interested in your reaction.

I have no idea if Tepper was one of the owners in question. Nor does it matter to our current situation. No one knows how Tepper will be. He’s never had any power and now he has it all.

And if Rivera is coaching this team in 2019, my reaction will be that we still have a huge problem at owner. But, and this is nothing more than my opinion(or guess), I can’t see Tepper not cleaning house of anything left from the previous regime. Who on our coaching staff or FO would be your first choice if hiring/interviewing for their current position?

What makes you think Ron, or anyone is safe? Sure isn’t job performance.

So your basis is “Because I said so”?

Since I’m just guessing, and you claim to have all the answers. Make whatever claim you want. Just come back and own it. Right or wrong.

 Now bring those “details”.

Yup and Tepper believes in the Steelers model of patience. Could see Hurney gone first, new GM gets to evaluate Rivera and decide if he wants to go in a new direction. I could see the new GM insisting on a hand in asst.coaching decisions after this debacle.

He absolutely does not. He wanted to fire Mike Tomlin after the loss to the Jags in the AFC Divisional Round last year.

2) Nobody has a clue what Dave is thinking.  He may be fed up, or he may see reasons other than Ron's failings as the primary reason for the collapse.  Until he speaks, there's no way to know.  He has no history to help us formulate any sort of educated guess.

Though not specifically to the subject of Ron or Hurney's future, he has spoken at least once this season, back in September after our Week 1 win.

“I’m real focused on analytics, and we hadn’t really done that before. I loved the mix of plays. The first down passing was a new look for this team." ... “You have to incorporate modern ideas,” Tepper said. “I just want to make sure analytics are applied. I don’t want human biases to alter what we think is correct or not correct. There is an openness to it here, which is good. I want a tough mentality, I like grittiness, but this is a new age.”

What I take from that was even back in September, even after a win, there were things about the coaching/organization he questioned. That last line in particular is interesting.

I know that, I quoted him because he said that the falcons and saints have owned us since 2015. We lost to the Falcons in 2015. Swept the saints. So I don't see how they owned us since then.

2016 and on, sure, they have. Not prior tho.

Fair enough.

So the Falcons have owned us since late 2015, the Saints since 2016, and the Bucs did a week ago (almost beat us the first time, if we're being honest).

Damn :poison:

Hint 1 for you...

Mr. Tepper's DNA is that of a QUANT:  He has a fascination with numbers and fancies himself as having photographic memory.  Quant's are driven by the numbers, the facts, and do their best to eliminate "emotion" from decision making (unlike keyboard jockeys & kneejerk dolts).

Key Takeaway -- Mr. Tepper will value 3 NFC South rings/4 playoffs/51 regular season wins in 7 years, more than he will be worried about a 4 game losing streak where the star QB has been playing with a bad wing.

Bingo, too many posters in here taking a micro view instead of a macro one.  Apparently it's against the rules to thread bump but when Rivera is retained as coach i'll just have to wink instead :)
