Could this just be Ron auditioning for his next job elsewhere as a DC?

If the defense improves, Rivera might just keep his job. If it fails, then it will be the last nail in the coffin. You can't be a known commodity for defensive play calling and fail. This looks tough with the Saints on the horizon...

I don't think anything will save his job at this point.  His goose was cooked the moment Pittsburgh curbed stomped Teppers new pride and joy.   Ron is a dead man walking.

I think the only way Ron could possibly keep his job is by winning out, making the playoffs AND winning at least one playoff game. Which seems pretty much impossible after this past 4 game stretch. Another first round loss in the playoffs wouldn't be enough, and he's definitely gone if we miss it entirely after starting 6-2.

He's gone.  This team isn't making the playoffs.

I think that teams are just looking for coaches that can win. Sean McVay is an anomaly.

Of course this doesn't mean teams don't want "young, promising offensive minds," but I'm not so sold quite yet that most of these owners want to make them head coaches without some legit experience.

I think people also underestimate how important McVay's hire of Phillips was. Phillips experience helped McVay make the transition and McVay's smarts held some of Phillips' weaknesses in check.
