I believe we will have near 68 million in cap and this coming offseason will be one of the most wide open one's in quite some time.  None of our anticipated FAs on the roster are even worth retaining minus Daryl.  We also have a young core on their rookie or fresh contracts:

Offense:

CMC

DJ Moore

Curtis Samuel

Ian Thomas

Moton

Larsen

Armah

Defense:

Donte Jackson

Short (Kind of a bad year but we've got him locked up)

Luke

Shaq

Mario Addison

Honorable mentions/unknowns:

James Bradberry (I still don't know what to think about him)

J. Carter Jr.

Efe Obada

Andre Smith

The rest of the team better strap in.  I think this D could be completely reconfigured.  This will be the clearest opportunity to do so if Rivera is gone.  There's just so much expendable talent I.E.: Horton,

We definitely need some major help in the front 7 but we've got some skilled players in tact for the next season or two (or three).

CMC- 22, DJ Moore- 21, Curtis Samuel-22, Taylor Moton- 24, Greg Van Roten- 28, Tyler Larsen- 27, Trai Turner- 25, Daryl Williams- 26, Ian Thomas- 22.

That is a full offensive line plus 2 WRs, 1 RB, and 1 TE. All of whom I feel confident can be contributors to a playoff team. Average age is 24. Larsen and Van Roten, the 1 oldest, can be replaced in draft or free agency with younger options if necessary.

Honestly, Cam at 29 years old should be able to find success on offense with these guys around him. But if the window is closed, then you trade Cam and move on. Find the next QB who fits into the timeline of these guys. Hell, Funchess is only 24 years old, so technically he fits too but is he talented enough to be a part of this group?

Donte Jackson- 23, Efe Obada- 26, James Bradberry- 25, Luke Keuchly- 27, Shaq Thompson- 24, Eric Reid- 26, Rashaun Gaulden- 23.

Obviously the defense needs the most work when talking about a window closing and needing to revamp with youth. But the secondary is fairly young still and if Gaulden can turn into a solid option next to Reid (assuming you can resign him), then you have a secondary with an average age of 24 as well. The biggest issue on defense I think is the 2 former Pro bowl DTs not living up to their billing, and the lack of edge rush. What is required in my opinion is you clean house defensively and find 5 other starters to be the new front 4 plus TD replacement, and bring in Obada as a pass rush specialist.

Realistically, this team is maybe 7 or 8 key players away from being a young, competitive roster with lots of good years ahead of them. But it starts with a new coaching staff and philosophy from the top down.

If Cam's window is closed as a competitor on the highest level, then you need to move on and get the best possible value for him, maybe a future 1st and a few 2nd or 3rds too. Draft a QB in the 1st round to be a game manager with the weapons already on the roster, and use the draft picks to invest in talented youth on the defensive side.

I agree on bradberry. He looks lost  captain is trash. Donte J is a rookie at least he makes a play on the ball   Which can’t be said for  Bradberry.    Ron won’t play Doss cause it’ll show his poor talent evaluation skills again

Reid is very good at thumping and run support we need a dam ball hawking safety to make up for mistakes. And it ain’t Adams he’s so slow it’s painful to watch

And We need A DE that brings pressure consistently. A good  Young  DT that is hungry would help also

Where are all the idiots that sat here defending every single one of Gettleman’s moves?

He is the main reason we’re in this mess. Couldn’t draft to save his life, had no idea how to go about free agency, didn’t believe in windows...

The guy was in wayyyy over his head and it was obvious to anyone with half a brain from day 1.

There is a ton of work to do this offseason and I think it’s important ownership gets on this now. We have the cap space to sign enough guys to compete next year if we choose to go that route or we could rebuild if wanted.

Things can turn around fast in the NFL. With an infusion of a forward looking coaching staff, cutting the older players and the dead weight and some smart draft picks....things can turn around quickly.

If they can free up some more cap space somehow and get  FA's that are worth a damn in needed positions....then they can be on top again.
