Why Jarrett/Moore and the TEs are shells of what they could be

This has been brought alot. But I think Smitty's comments was more his way of pointing out that Jake just can't perform anymore. I really see JD not being the starter next year, calling it, or he will retire.

But the Smitty comment seems a little passive aggressive towards Jake.

I agree.

Also, it could create more conflict between Smitty and the Panthers.....Jake is clearly a good friend of Smith's and it shouldn't be put on Smith's shoulders for him to nudge the coaches/organization to help push them to make the correct decision with Jake.

DD, to be brutally honest, all I want is Jake gone. I have tried to take him with a grain of salt over the years, and even learned to respect him. But now, it's time to give him a party, shake his hand, and talk about the good times as you lead him to the door.

But, since you mention it, it may be time to set Moose out to pasture also. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. I wouldn't mind seeing him in some kind of capacity for the Panthers for years to come, but pertaining to the field of play at some point you have to think about opportunity costs (to use a term from my wife who has a degree in econ). Moose hasn't been lighting the world on fire (which probably brings us back to Jake), the offense has looked shaky, even in victories against organizations that are train wrecks, so why not put the new blood in to see what they can do? Give 'em some valuable playing time? The only negative that I can see coming from it is the perception that they suck because of Jake's inability to get them the ball. But that may be a good thing because perhaps no other team will be rushing in to sweep them up. We believe that these guys may be being stymied by Jake/Fox, but even we won't know what we have until we see them used on a consistent basis when it really matters, which brings us right back to Jake/Fox. It's an ugly cycle.

I agree that Jake should probably be gone. In fact, I think he will be by next year. Whether his replacement is Moore or someone else, I don't know. Wouldn't mind seeing Moore get a shot this year though, so we have a better idea of what we have.

Moose doesn't need to be out to pasture, but he should become the third receiver. But I don't think Fox is ready to give up his downfield blocking, and he may be right about that.

Actually, I really like the way we've been using the tight ends this year. All of our passing TD's have been to tight ends. Jeff King and Dante Rosario have both produced more than Kevin Boss this year. Together, they come pretty close to Dallas Clark's numbers. Moore and Jarrett won't be used much at all this year simply because we almost never have more than 2 receivers on the field. And you know what? I'm ok with that, because I trust Jeff King and Dante Rosario more than I trust Jarrett or Moore.

And yes, with the current offensive playcalling, we DO have a chance of beating the good teams. Because, by God, we can run the poo out of the football.

that isn't really a good thing. The offense has turned into the Redskins from a year or so ago....TEs are turning into the only threat in the passing game and that is b/c of a QB and passing offense struggling.

with the offensive playcalling we have seen in the majority of games....we don't have a chance to beat the good teams.

you shouldn't group jarrett in with moore and the tight ends. moore and the tight ends have shown us something, jarrett has shown us nothing

if Jarrett has shown you nothing...then what has Moore shown you? I mean this is about being an option in the passing game (so his one return has nothing to do with anything). Moore has been thrown to slightly more than Jarrett has 1 additional catch but Jarrett avg. more per play. No matter what group you want to put those two in....they belong in the same group imo.

How can you show something when you are thrown too twice the entire year

Ditto that!

With Smith being doubled, and Muhsin on the other side, and two friggin' targets, you surely don't expect us to believe that Jarrett has had an opportunity to flourish. All of us have been watching Jarrett for the past season and a half wondering why he hasn't been involved in the flow of the offense, and I'm sorry, dude, the problem just can't be him. We all have seen the guy make key catches (even though they amount to a handful's worth during the season).

Anybody that is blaming the problem with Jarrett is misdirecting the true blame for his lack of production. And, we all have an inkling, as to what/who the real problem is. I am not saying that he is a superstar or even a WR2 in the making, all I am saying is that I really don't have a justifiable amount of work to make a reasonable judgment.

Kenny Moore, King, Rosario have all shown they will go get the ball, something Jarrett hasn't done. He can catch it if it hits his hands, but he's not gonna break a sweat fighting a cornerback for it.

well, Jarrett has caught 100% of the balls thrown to him. I do think Jarrett needs confidence and that will make him more aggressive....but the fact Carolina drafted him probably doomed his career. He simply doesn't get the chances to prove himself nor gain confidence in the position.
