There is really no such thing any more,.. it’s just labels that are left over from the past.

there was a great article and interview with Wade Phillips recently asking him about differences in his 3-4 and a 4-3 and he said there really was no difference any more.

there are so many multirole players whereas the past there were single roles,..and it’s required that defenses constantly evolve in the game on the field, personnel on the line, back in coverage etc.

anyway— yes we can play 3-4, 4-3, 5-2 or anything else on any given down.

Pretty much this. Everyone's base defense is the nickel package.

They have several pieces in place to convert next year or sign a top flight de like Clowney and stay at 4-3 base.  I had concerns with the depth at de all year before the Pittsburgh game.  Reid was an excellent signing but our cb and de depth is dragging this team down.

First off, this conversation only makes sense if you're talking about next year. You're not going to change your entire defensive scheme 11 games into a season.

As to logistics, 4-3 defensive tackles convert to 3-4 defensive ends. Our DTs are lousy. And we don't really have a true nose tackle (Poe ain't it).

I'm not a big fan of moving Luke out of a traditional middle linebacker role though. Hypothetically he could play a similar role inside, but I'm not dead convinced it'd work.  Plus it'd make no real difference to the secondary.

The only truly intriguing thing I could see here would be that guys like Efe Obada and Marquis Haynes might theoretically be better suited to the 3-4 edge rusher role (I have serious doubts that Haynes can play in a 4-3) but that's not guaranteed.

I’ve got to go find that Wade Phillips article but basically he said it was simply about putting personnel in position to make plays and not about scheme. He said for the most part there was no such thing any more of a 3-4 or 4-3 as they were rigidly known in the past.

you just have to have a defensive coordinator that’s smart enough to recognize the personnel they have and put them in position to make plays and demand attention to detail.

we can play 3-4 on the field just like we go to Nickel a lot and 3 safeties, and 1 Safety and bla bla bla.

i think we just have DC that are without discipline, get no respect in the locker room, and fails to get the right execution from his players. HC too.

so until we get someone who stresses execution, discipline, tackling, getting off blocks etc,.. the rigidity or lack of with scheme or hybrid matters little.

so I agree nothing will change until we get a new DC next year

Fug it,  bring back the 46 defense, we suck at defending the pass anyway. Its the only way we could bring any kind of pressure.

Just rush 11 every time,... what’s the worst that happens? We get 15 sacks in one game, some forced fumbles, score 30 points but they score 42 points on 6 chunk plays?

No one is back there to stop big passing plays anyway HA,... just blitz them all anyway.

Yep play with reckless abandon lmao, got nothing to lose. It is better than a death by 1000 cuts via dink and dunk.
