These are the numbers:

Rowboat Ron has a regular season record of 70-52 (.574).

Fox was 68-68 (.500) in regular season games.

Before Ron:  16 seasons, 4 playoff appearances (.250)

After Ron:  7 seasons, 4 playoff appearance (.571), including 4 of last 5 seasons (.800)

“you are what your record says you are”
Bill Parcells

Question, do you think Ron should be fired TODAY?

Ron should be fired this year if he doesn’t make the playoffs. You comparing him to Seifert and Capers who had some of the worst teams in history of the franchise doesn’t mean anything. The NFL was a totally different time then especially with Capers where FA was pretty much nonexistent.

You ignored the fact of my previous post where if you take out the unicorn years of both Rivera and Fox that Fox has a better winning percentage than Rivera, yet I still like Rivera more than him. But he is not getting the job done any more. Want to compare him to someone else that got fired because he couldn’t get the job done with the talent he had?

2007-2012 Norv Turner San Diego Chargers

2007 - 11-5 ( Lost in the conference championship)

2008 - 8-8 (Lost in the divisional playoff)

2009 - 13-3 (Lost in the divisional playoff)

2010 - 9-7 (didn’t make the playoffs)

2011 - 8-8 (didn’t make the playoffs)

2012 - 7-9 (didn’t make the playoffs)

That’s the perfect example of what your arguemenr is for this situation. “Well it could always be worse and it has!” That doesn’t mean you should continue to stick with the same thing if you can’t get over the hump.

All that matters is that Ron is 0-3, soon to be 0-5, against his main competition in the division.  The same competition that is going to be repeat division champs and quit possibly SB champs, again.

That does not look good on his resume to retain his current position.

If Rivera loses to either the Bucs or the Browns then he’s done. Considering the second half showing the Bucs put on us in game 1 and the ascension of the Browns in recent weeks. I’m going to put Rivera as a 95% chance of getting fired if he loses either of those games.

We’re not beating the Saints if we lose either of those other two games bc the team will lose heart and quit. Thus...lose one of those games and you might as well chalk up 3 losses....8-8 at best...Rivera done.

Even winning those two games I think we’re looking at 10-6 at best and more likely 9-7 or 8-8.

So...essentially our chance of making the playoffs after dropping games to the Lions and Seahawks is probably like 10-20%. To me...with Cam playing the way he is you have to fire RR and just bring someone in that can keep cam going.

And just what has San Diego done since 2012?

Has the alternative worked?

They’ve won as many Super Bowls as we have in the same time. Only winning 13 games more then them during the same time frame. If you take out the 15-1 season they have just as many wins and that’s with them having 2 years of Mike McCoy 4-12 and 5-12.

San Diego/LA Chargers 2013-2018

44-47

1 Playoff Apperance

- that’s with them rebuilding from the terrible Mike McCoy experiment.

Carolina Panters 2013-2018 (arguably the most talented teams we’ve ever had)

57-33-1

4 Playoff Apperance

I simply listed the wins & losses for each coach....

As for the "unicorn years"....if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass.

You didn’t simply list it, you compared Rivera to the rest of our coaching history saying “look how much better we’ve been since Rivera has been here”, mean while compared the records of HCs who didn’t even have FA around to help build a team and was an expansion team.

Jesus this dude is just like Malzahn at Auburn. Incompetent but some fans want to argue “but he went to a championship”.

Yeah off the back of a phenomenal quarterback and a solid front 7 at the time. Three winning seasons out of 8 is not acceptable. Being above .500 should be an absolute minimum requirement for our coaches.

To everyone wanting to cherry pick stats...

You either take take them all... or you take none at all.  Removing the 15-1 season or the 2-14 season cause it fits your narrative is some asinine thinking.  It happened, you count it.  If you can’t come up with a better well thought out argument... then shut the fugg up.

So the 1972 Miami Dolphins were the greatest team to ever play? Because it’s a stat that happened and you can’t argue against it right?

The 15-1 season did happen, and it counts, but there's a caveat.

That was Rivera/Gettleman. What we have right now is Rivera/Hurney.

It's not the same.

Rivera was much more successful as a coach when he had a partner that could counter some of his weaknesses. He and Hurney just aren't as effective a combination.

If you really want Rivera to return to the top, the best thing you could do for him is to get a better GM. Preferably one with a heavy background in personnel evaluation and a willingness to say no to players when it's in the best interest of the team (aka the Steelers approach).

Me? I think it's more likely the best move is to just clean house and start fresh.

It's a shame because Rivera and Hurney both seem like really good guys, but the job of football coaches and executives is to win. As a combo, these two aren't very good at it, and I don't believe getting rid of just one of them is enough of an answer.

Rebooting might be tough, but it's better than continuing with something that's unsuccessful.

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
