David Newton On Rivera

New owner David Tepper wants to win, and he wants to win now. Should the Panthers continue their current skid and finish with a losing record and miss the playoffs, Rivera would have only three winning seasons in eight. Granted, he made the Super Bowl in 2015 and was the NFL Coach of the Year twice, which should give him plenty of job security. But if the team collapses after a 6-2 start, he might not have the loyalty that former owner Jerry Richardson showed him. -- David Newton

And ESPN has his seat as pretty cool. But I want to know why David mention 3 winning seasons in 8, if we lose out his job is still safe just cause what he did in the past. It's what have you done for me lately.

Rivera's seat is definitely not cool if Tepper is hell-bent on winning now (which he should be). We have two elite players in Cam and Luke who are nearing the ends of their prime. If this current tailspin continues I think he's as good as gone. Honestly, right now I'd put it at 75% gone. I think we have to get into the playoffs for him to have any chance of staying and I can't see any better than a 25% chance of that given our remaining schedule and teams both the Seahawks and Redskins holding tiebreakers over us.

If I was in Tepper’s shoes, only way Ron keeps his job is some type of miracle run deep into the playoffs and a SB win. That’s not happening with this team. Hate to be that guy.

Best case scenario: We may grab a wildcard win if the matchup is right i.e we get the redskins or something. But we will get stomped in the 2nd round.

Worst case scenario: we lose out. Hey, If we lose this Sunday, this may really happen. Browns are no slouch. We may beat Atlanta (they are tapping out like us lol) and saints backups

So y’all talk poo about every David Newton article, until it’s one about firing Rivera? I’m over it. Wait till a Jason Garrett walks into Carolina and is worse than Ron and then we’ll really have something to bitch about.

Cowboys are better than us right now

Rowboat Ron has a regular season record of 70-52 (.574).

Fox was 68-68 (.500) in regular season games.

Which do you prefer?

Note: the other 2 head coaches in Panthers history were a combined 46-66 (.411).

CONCLUSION: Be careful what you wish for.

That record has much more to do with Newton than it does Rivera.

Ron does not have control over player personnel, "The Big Cat" & Money Bags Marty made those decisions as it relates to the current team.

That said, how did you feel about the extensions that were given to Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis?

Were you against those when they happened?

I meant his devotion to starting vets and only giving new players a chance if someone gets injured, it is one of Ron's flaws.  I am fine with giving extensions when they are earned which they were in both cases.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, the whole premise of Ron Rivera and Cam Newton was flawed from the start. Why draft a QB number one overall and then stick him with a defensive-minded head coach and owner? I guess it could work out, but a conservative approach to offense is not what you want when you're a picking a QB with the #1 pick in the draft.

So the team chose a QB to save the team and shape its future, and then ignored the offense for the rest of that draft. And the only serious attempts at improving the offense for the next 5 seasons were drafting Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess (a TE converted to WR). If the plan was to make the defense the driving force of the team, they should have just drafted Von Miller instead. He and Luke could have done some damage - especially with a young Greg Hardy still on the team

This is your defense of Rivera ?

    • One has a proven, offensive-minded, Super Bowl winning head coach along with a top 5 OL + defense. He's being protected and getting the ball back not having to chase the other teams. The other had Frank Reich + Thomas Brown their rookie year with a bottom 5 defense as well as a bottom 5 OL that gave up the 2nd most sacks against a rookie QB ever. The sophomore season is being ran with a top 5 OL but also with a rookie HC (that has just one year of OC experience) and a bottom 5 defense still. The Broncos defense has allowed over 20pts just three times this season (26 vs. SEA (L), 23 vs. LAC (L), 41 vs. BAL (L)). Meanwhile, the Panthers have had ONE game where the defense gave up less than 20pts (vs. NYG (W)).   I'm not sure how folks couldn't expect Bo Nix to statistically perform better given their incredibly different situations. With that said, I didn't expect Nix to keep ascending as impressively as he has this season. Hopefully his arc will give other older college QBs a better shot, especially given the recent media blitz against the NFL regarding how development of the QB position in the league seems to be non-existent. Hopefully Bryce continues to improve as well, of course.
    • “You can learn a lot in 10 games,” Nix said. “[I’m] still learning, still growing, but just finding ways to execute the play that’s called, no matter what it is: run play, pass play. It doesn’t matter. Just finding the right way to go with the ball.” To that point, Nix noted how his developing partnership with head coach Sean Payton has helped Denver’s offense get to the next level. “To be honest, I think at the beginning, you kind of make the NFL bigger than what it actually is,” Nix said when asked where he feels he’s made the most strides. “These players are really good, but at the same time, you have really good players on your level. I think simplifying the game, trying to play as fast as possible, and finding a completion, which is what we’ve been able to do here recently. “I think as we’ve gone on, Coach and I have found a good rhythm of what we both like, what we can kind of put out there on the field, and what we can execute. Then the guys have kind of adapted to it, found our roles within the offense, and executed at a high level. It’s just all about slowing the game down and processing things in a manner that you can handle. Just kind of see one or two things, and let those guys take you to where the ball is supposed to be.” -Bo Nix From what I'm gathering regarding Bryce, the Panthers entered this season with a reset mindset. It's Young's rookie year, which explains the benching. Now, we're beginning to see the development of Canales and Young's offense. Slow development but we're winning 😃
    • Bix has more tds through his first 11 games than bryce has his entire career....no comparison at all he made amazing throws during his first games his decision making just keeps getting better.  Young does not have the physical ability ro make the rhrows bo makes
