FYI... Ron Rivera did not play for the field goal on final drive

That's the part about not holding up.

You can choose this hill to die on if you like...your call...but it's a stupid one.

We had a more accurate, younger, cheaper NFL kicker on the roster, that we had just drafted and signed to a 4 year deal, and we went with the less accurate, older, much more expensive option.  That's bad roster management, something that Hurney has excelled at for over 10 years with the Panthers.

Butker has a legitimate chance at a Super Bowl ring.

Gano has a legitimate chance of finding a new address.

Who was the more accurate kicker last season?

Hindsight is 20/20. Fact is it wouldn't have been wise to hand the starting job to a rookie kicker who had a poor training camp in a do or die season.

Not impressive. Need to see him hit some from 50+.

Still 3 XP misses... Gano misses one and hell breaks lose.

Gano has missed 3 XPs in far less attempts. Not really Butker's fault he's on a great offense that doesn't stall out around midfield. I'd rather have a kicker who is money from inside 50 yards than one who is unpredictable but can bang 60 yarders

Butker missed 2 from under 50 last season. Missed a key fg in their playoff matchup (lost by one point).

You are wrong about this one, and so was Hurney.  Do you understand that the salary cap exists?  And that good players on rookie deals are like gold in the NFL?

You bitch more about the Gano signing  than Munnerlyn's 21 million dollar contract. I wonder why

Here's the problem with your argument.

Even if we accept it every single premise you put forth (which we wouldn't, but hey) you've failed to show any significant superiority in Gano's performance. To be quite frankly, you've shown no superiority at all, much less anything major.

Given the differences in age and contract between the two, Gano would need to be demonstrably better than Butker to be worth keeping over him.

He isn't.

The end result is we gave more money to.an older guy who may not have many years left at this rate when we could have had a guy who was just as good, just starting his career and significantly cheaper.

Doesn't matter how much spin you put on it. That's lousy roster management.

Reports state that Butker was crap in training camp. The staff didn't want a Tampa situation in a do or die season. Is that so hard to understand? If I knew that Butker would turn it around I would have cut Gano.
