FYI... Ron Rivera did not play for the field goal on final drive

He had also had 3 straight weeks with a miss.

And prior to that 63 yarder, he had been barely 50% over 50 yards in the last 4 years in Carolina

Again ignore home versus away and that at home he has been perfect. While he did miss, coaches follow stats and trends so if the decision is to go for 4th and 4 after we got stuffed earlier in the game twice with one yard to go versus kick a field goal by a guy perfect at home all year, it wasn't a debate at all. Ron chose correctly but Gano missed it. It happens.

I might agree, but Butker hasn't been impressive this season.

Butker has missed a FG and 3 XPs this season. He hasn't been great. Butker was terrible in training camp so Hurney went with the solid veteran. Gano has been great for us.

How's that holding up?

Butker and Gano have missed the exact same amount of PAT's this year.  Butker has attempted 50 PAT's, and Gano has attempted 31 PAT's.  3/50 or 3/31?

Butker and Gano have missed the exact same amount of FG's this year.  Butker attempted 18 FG's so far, and Gano has attempted 15. 2/18 or 2/15?

Let's also please don't discount the $$$, which is most important.

Butker U/C for us?  575k for 2018.

Gano?  3.4M.

Now which part of that isn't impressive compared to the wonderful vet Gano?

That was before the Seahawks game. Has Butker been great though? His FG long is 46 yards..

Bullshit. Ron is involved. What Norv is calling out there is exactly what Rivera wants. There's a reason why Ron brought in no other candidates besides Norv Turner and didn't even interview anyone else for the DC position.

How is our fanbase this gullible?

It happened under Chud with old-school Ron on the sideline with a headset.

It happened under Shula with old-school Ron on the sideline with a headset.

Its happening under Turner with old-school Ron on the sideline with a headset.

"What bad luck Action Jackson Ron, who just LOVES TO SCORE POINTS IN BUNCHES, must have had over these years, accidentally choosing all these conservative play-calling OC's that don't fit exactly what he wants to do!" (some really really stupid people seem to think).

Even if you can somehow rationalize the final offensive plays, there is simply no way you can excuse Ron Rivera allowing the game to slip away from him like that. Not just at home, but against a Pete Carroll led team that has had our number more often than not numerous times over the years. How in the world was Ron not adequately prepared for that scenario with all the plays he's seen against the Seahawks over the years? That is a failure in coaching.

I would have went for it on 4th down. Looking at how much time was left and our defense not able to stop a turtle aiding Gano to make  an easier fg if we got the 1st down. Making Seattle use more of their time outs. RPO type of play would have been better. Wilson is too good to have not gone for it on 4th down. Once we brought out the field goal kicker I knew we had lost. I cut my Tv off as Gano was coming onto the field. Even he had made it we would have still lost. Defense being used to win a game is over we are not that team anymore. He needs to give that idea up PERIOD.

yeah he's only just made every field goal except one from 50+ while converting a higher % of XPs and FGs all for considerably less than what Gano is getting paid

Not impressive. Need to see him hit some from 50+.

Still 3 XP misses... Gano misses one and hell breaks lose.

What's Kansas City's record?

Aa for 50 yarders, you don't have to attempt aa many of them if your coaching doesn't put you in that position.

That's the part about not holding up.

You can choose this hill to die on if you like...your call...but it's a stupid one.

We had a more accurate, younger, cheaper NFL kicker on the roster, that we had just drafted and signed to a 4 year deal, and we went with the less accurate, older, much more expensive option.  That's bad roster management, something that Hurney has excelled at for over 10 years with the Panthers.
