jaguars fire their o-coordinator, despite the season being lost

meanwhile we keep our poo ass d-coordinator despite us being in the mix (record wise)

its sad that one of the biggest losers in the nfl are doing more to win than the panthers

When I think of a team to model success after, the first one that comes to mind is the Jaguars....

firing a coach while still mathematically eligible for the playoffs is reckless and there is nothing to be gained.  If The writing is on the wall for Rivera as many people on this board say then what does he gain by firing the DC.  makes him look desperate and like he is seeking a scapegoat.

If he want to win and attempt to salvage the season it is probably better for him to keep the DC and power through.  There’s enough chaos without causing more.

Ravens fired their OC in season then won the SB...

In all honesty, is there a difference between firing Washington and having no defensive coordinator the rest of the year and having Washington as coordinator the rest of the year?

I think if the Panthers are smart, they hold a raffle and the winner gets to be defensive coordinator the rest of the season and is allowed to freely call RR an idiot whenever he/she wants to. I think our defense would have just as much success calling madden's goal line blitz every single down than letting Washington call plays from his playbook

It's fair to ask why Eric Washington, at the very least, hasn't been relieved of DC duties.  I get that he's a great DL coach.  Fine, move him back there.  Have Ron take over as DC until the year is out.

Honestly, the inaction on this issue is likely to be why Rivera gets fired.  In the Jags case, Marrone (an offensive background) saw something going wrong with his team and tried to fix it.  Maybe it works, maybe not, but at least he tried.  Players - and owners - can respect that.  Nobody likes to lose, and making changes in an effort to win is usually looked upon favorably.
