Some Prospects To Look Out For

Hoenheim

We have the 16th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Right now (Pre Senior Bowl/Combine/Pro Days) here are the most realistic prospects for us right now given our needs:

  • Montez Sweat , DE, Mississippi State
  • Zach Allen, DE, Boston College
  • Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson
  • Deionte Thompson, FS, Alabama

Overwhelmingly, we are assumed to need a DE. Problem is we are at 16, and this draft might be the perfect storm for an early run on DEs being that there is not much top shelf talent in the offensive skill positions that usually take a number of spots in the top 10 or 15, there might be none of them in this draft.

We've got way too much money tied up in DT and LB, I hope to god we don't waste a 1st rounder on either of those.  I have a feeling that we'll try to patch Saftey through FA like usual, but Deointe Thompson might just be too good to ignore at BPA if all the DEs are gone at that point.   I think the staff is sold on Bradberry and Jackson, so I don't see them wasting a 1st rounder on cornerback depth.  Jonah Williams seems great but we have virtually 0 shot at the top oline prospects in the middle of the draft board.

Its just easy to see DE is incredibly likely and the Panthers staff will be really hoping

Ferrell and Sweat are the onky ones off that list who would really fit here

Josh Allen has always been a stand up OLB in 3-4 OLB

Zach Allen is a prototypical 3-4 DE

Poliete and Burns are 3-4 OLB and are as big or even slightly smaller than Marquise Haynes who cant get on the field because his size

Greedy will go top 10- he's the next Good LSU CB with his size and speed

Baker is Good- but the need at DE is greater

Deionte Thompson is a Absolute STUD- top 10 material but may fall due to the talent in this DL class.

Ferrell, Thompson, Sweat in order who I want

Yea I'd be happy with any of these.

DE, Nickel back and a true FS are our top three needs IMO heading into next year

I How about OL?

Plenty of mocks have us taking RK’s replacement although I’m happy with Larsen.

@ C one of Dieter, McCoy, Biadasz and Jenkins will be available in the 3rd.

I’m convinced DW will be hard to hold onto at RT though I would be happy to be wrong. Williams and Little are potential R1 replacements but Cajuste and Edwards might be good value in the R2. Then there’s the option of Risner or Scharping two guys who Pff love, have played OT in college but are projected as guards in the NFL. I like them because they might offer great depth. Dieter also plays across the OL.

However, my ideal pick and prediction is DE and Sweat and Ferrell would be terrific. Joe Jackson might be an option later on, and if you want to take a look at a late rnd gamble there is a division 2 dude John Cominsky  from Charleston, whom has been successful at that level and has been invited to the senior bowl.

I read an article lauding him but couldn’t track it down. Do you guys know anything about him?

Im not a fan of Jackson

He Really REALLY needs to come back a year.

Really Raw, has all the athleticism.  But seems most if his success stems from his athletic ability.

He got Destroyed vs LSU.  And made some very bad plays when trying to recover and make a plays with his athletic ability.

He could be a first rounder in the  next draft.

Just not ready for a project.  Already have 2 of them with Obada and Haynes

I like his size in general. We are missing a DE that can set the edge since CJ retired.

Gary is a interesting one

He's been a 3-4 DE his whole time

I want to see how he does at the combine etc.  See how his bend is etc, and how he can do coming off the edge

If the Panthers choose to go with the best player available and he is there then Greedy Williams needs to be the pick. Personally, I haven’t seen a corner as impressive as him since Patrick Peterson. Just look what Williams did to Metcalf, a projected first round pick.

I also think Zach Allen can be had in the second round and I think he’d be a great fit for this defense because he is not one-dimensional. He led the FBS in stops among edge rushers and is no slouch as a pass rusher either, in fact he had 12 QB hurries in a single game against Temple.

My sleeper is Iowa State WR Hakeem Butler, who I think could be had in the third round. A big WR that ACTUALLY knows how to use his body and is physical. I’d love a top three of Moore, Samuel, and Butler.

    • Rhule was GM for 2020 and 2021/final say/total control/______/head cheese   Then afters years of trying to find a QB, trepper issued a order to get one at all cost. Even without BY fumble and after the rhule driving the draft/FAs(member erving and elf lollolols) fittererererer was no improvement.
