2016 offseason led to this

Jackson is legitimately good. Reid was hailed as the key to Super Bowl victory but has actually turned out to just be a more physical version of Charles Godfrey.

which is fine if they had a more rangy guy behind him. Add on to that we're trotting Captain Munnerlyn out there and we're basically playing the 84 Bears defense.

I can't believe anyone is still jonesing for Norman after what Michael Thomas did to him on national TV. You do realize we have to play those guys twice a year, right?

Norman was a terrific fit in our scheme though.  Not saying he'd be a different player had he stayed, but most likely, he'd be a different player had he stayed.

Rivera actually stated that Hurney had to convince him to change his thinking and take Donte Jackson. Think about that. Ron had to be talked into taking our best rookie this season. Rivera and his mindset are the largest problem here. Not saying we should keep Hurney or that Gettleman didn't have some stinker drafts, but it's Rivera that the NFL has passed by.

Moore is our best rookie.

The point of 2016 and Norman is not that we needed to pay Norman a huge multi year deal. Lots of people seem to jump straight to multi year deal when defending Gettleman not keeping Norman. Hell I didn't want him to pay him top dollar multi year either. Mistake written all over that one.  But ONE year, draft the best we can to cover for him being gone in 2017, don't blow your whole draft on it, makes total sense and was the move to make. Paying Norman as a tagged guy for one year buys you time. It is really the only sensible way to approach it. But Gettleman had to swing his dick around. I wanted him gone then and had I been JR he would have been the day he rescinded the tag.

I agree it massively set us back. Maybe Gettleman could have lucked into someone at two of those draft slots he wasted on Sanchez and Worley.

It’s laughable. We ignore CMC and Samuel and Moton and Butker like they aren’t on the team. Gettleman is gone but his teams went to the playoffs a bunch, including last year’s team which was basically his aside from keeping Ganope over Butker.

Hurney has done two things. Moore (which seemed from the pro-day more of Turner’s want) and Jackson. I hope Thomas comes a long at some point but the rest was nothing, including the FAs.

Let’s be honest, I think that we’ve got enough talent on the team as it is now. Sure we could have drafted better but so could every team. Half the first round picks every year amount underwhelm. What the Saints did in 2017 is extremely rare.

This team’s issue at its core are coaching related. We finally have the offensive weapons we wanted and digging the well into our third DC internal call up has failed us miserably and Ron hasn’t improved so the one thing we had counted on for years is the weak link, we’ll and our Ganope.

On the offensive side perhaps.  But on the defensive side, we are old.  Davis, Peppers, and Adams, are all key players and all them started playing three presidents ago.  The defensive line play has been ok against the run, but terrible against the pass.  We are 22nd in the league in sacks.  While I know sacks aren't the only indicator of pressure, if you are 11 games into the season, and in the bottom third of the league, you have a problem.
