Unpopular opinion : We are overusing Mccaffrey and it’s not good for the offense

Like, what evidence can people point to that McCaffrey is being overused? This is exactly what he did in college, he was Stanford's workhorse back and if anything, they used him even more than we do in short yardage situations. He proved extremely durable then and has done so thus far in the NFL. Is this just another thing where because he's small and white, he can't possibly handle the physical demands of the game? Has he even missed a single snap due to injury? I can't even remember a time where he limped or needed help to get off the field.

If anything, making him a slot receiver would expose him to more hits in the neck/head area, which is what what actually ends careers these days. His running style is actually very conducive to a long and healthy career. Once the ball is in his hands, he gets low and protects his body very well, especially going into contact.

College doesn’t not equal pros

Darren Sproles was a workhorse in college,  Deangelo Williams was the ultimate workhorse in Memphis , they still got injured. Unless we are doing the Preist Holmes strategy of use him up for 3 or 4 seasons then throw him away.

Cmc is one of the best backs in the game. He’s the least of our problems lol

Again, you're making the mistake a lot of people have since he was drafted, comparing him to anyone else. Christian McCaffrey is a unicorn, one of a kind, a genetic freak with the pedigree of a professional athlete. He's been training and preparing his body for this kind of workload since he could first carry a football. I guarantee you, every snap the defense sees him on the sidelines is one where they breathe a sigh of relief.

Ron will over use him , run him in the ground just like he has done Cam.     we’ve won because of Cam not because Of Ron

We’ve never won a game  because of RRs coaching. But lost quite a few because of his coaching decisions.

Of course we've won games because of his coaching. I want the guy gone because the game has passed him by, but this hyperbole....

Dont understand the overuse arguement. He hasn't missed a game in the two years he's played and never gets injured.

You have nothing to base the argument on besides pure speculation.

If anything, running the offense through CMC has resulted in a massive rejuvination of the offense, especially when Funchess/KB are not on the field. We've been moving the ball incredibly well and before today we were essentially unstoppable in the red zone. Every one of the defenders is so focused on CMC Cam breaks off big runs, we can do all this misdirection stuff with DJ and Samuel, and a lot of people are getting open off of the RPO and play actions.

Not to mention CMC is 4th in the NFL in yards from scrimmage and less than 130 yards behind Gurley who is by far and away this seasons' skill position offense player MVP.

Name one game where he out coached the  opposition  ? where we it looked like we were playing chess and the other team was playing checkers.

I’m sure there’s 2 or 3 games that stand out. But over 8 years of coaching ?  I’ve seen a lot of heroics by Cam and Luke that won games despite of Ron. There’s a reason Cam has so many comeback wins in the 4th quarter.

He may lead the entire league in yards from scrimmage by year end and eclipse Gurley but no one will mention him in the same breath with gurley barkley or even Kamara because a smaller guy from Stanford could never be great lol.

He's averaging over 6 YPT. If the defense is gonna leave him wide open on a dump off to pick up 10+, they're gonna take that every time. Only thing I would change is trying to make him a power/short yardage back.

But we must prove CMC can pound the rock up the middle!  Forget making smart football decisions.

17 is a lot when your 205 pounds running into the teeth of a defense, plus 11 catches, plus play action  and red options plays in which he’s also getting hit on, then don’t forget blocking where he takes on guys that outweigh him by 50 pounds.

it worked till we force feed him in the redzone

I don't agree.  Its not a lot, especially since he doesn't average that many touches and yesterday was an exception.

I did  agree about the red zone.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it has taken a couple of veteran WR injuries to force the hand of staff to give more opportunities to the younger guys.

What does that have to do with them using or not using Armah? We used the younger guys a lot yesterday.  We have been using some of them a lot all year.  Mainly CMC, but Moore's snaps were increasing even before the injuries.

There was a lot to complain about yesterday, not using the young guys wasn't one of them.

I think the red zone attempts were more about predictability then CMCs inability to get it done on the ground in short yards. I think Norv started the game with several runs inside the red zone and 0 passes. If you're that predictable then of course the defense is going to sell out on the run and not even Gurley or Zeke is going to be able to fight through a huge pile of defenders coming right at them.

I agree for the most part, although I think on the one where Cam hesitated, he might have made it had he just bull rushed, instead of waiting for a hole to open.  Not that I am criticising him, he was fantastic yesterday.  On those short yardage plays though, you just have to go.

I thought they should have rolled him out on the 4th down, it was obvious Seattle was loading up on the run.
