The 2018 Panthers: The most disappointing team in franchise history

True, but our main weakness is something that’s hard to overcome (pass rushers).  Rams have Donald and Suh.  Chiefs have Houston and Jones.  Saints have Jordan.  We’ve got Short but I think he’s been on IR this season

Agreed, but I think the coordinator change has had an impact there. We're hardly doing any stunts or anything with the DL other than predictable straight lane rushes and too often we end ul dropping our best pass rushers into coverage on on passing downs.

Eh to an extent yeah, but I blame him more for the secondary and linebacker woes.  I’m not sure there is much any DC could do about our lackluster defensive line though.  It’s ridiculous how much we are depending on Peppers and Addison isn’t good enough when the only other option behind him is Wes Horton.

But yeah Eric Washington is trash, he’s as bad of a DC as I’ve seen in Carolina

1-15 at least got us the #1 overall pick and ultimately a franchise QB. This year, we're probably going to end up winning just enough games to put us juuuuust out of reach of the elite pass rusher we desperately need in the draft.

Wrong season

So what was the point in saying that? Our team is nothing like that one.

I dunno, to underscore the insanity of the thread itself.

Drawing a general point of reference from a prior season isn’t the equivalent of saying “2003 = 2018.” We also lost 3+ straight in very lean years.

Would you agree there have been more bright spots this season than, say:

1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016

there's been more bright spots this year than any of those years (save 2011, when Cam joined the Panthers and in 2013, when we went 12 and 4), which is my point. We started 6 and 2 and we may lose our last 8. teams that begin a season that well should NEVER finish so poorly. Because we should be better and we looked good early, this is the most disappointing.

I would say yes. 06 was rough but the amount of talent this team has is more then almost any other year, yet we play scared on defense, miss key kicks or blocks, drop passes at the worst time, throw a bad pass at the worst time, etc.

Even worse than all of the above is no matter what they scratch and claw back in only to end up losing the damn game anyway, makes it all the more disappointing
