Hurricanes Gameday Thread

Chalk up another win for the good guys.

The Canes currently sit three points out of a playoff spot after going 12-4-1 since New Years.

The projected cut line is 95 points, the boys will need to go rough roughly 18-10 over these last 28 to make the playoffs.

15 of the Canes final 28 are against teams who have less points in the standings than the Canes and exactly half of the remaining games are at home.

We haven't been able to scoreboard watch this late into the season for quite some time. There are a ton of games on tomorrow and we'll definitely be looking for some certain outcomes.

Kings over Bruins / Wings over Sabres / Avs over Islanders/ Ducks over Flyers / Leafs over Canadians / Lighting over Penguins / Panthers over Capitals / Golden Knights over Blue Jackets.

Depending on the outcome of the Pens and Blue Jackets games, the Hurricanes could be playing for playoff position on Sunday.

This is getting fun, let’s keep it going.

Would love to have Mrazek and McElhinney back next year.

I think they'll let McElhinney go, and bring up the Goalie that they Drafted in the Second Round in 2014. He had a start in December and did well. Canes have to start reeping the benefits of their insanely good AHL team eventually, right?

Our Schedule is VERY manageable. I also think we need to let Jordan Staal go next year. He's not been missed even a little bit behind the scenes.

I’m ready to move on from Jordan as well. He’s a great defensive minded center but we need more skill based players on offense.

He may not be missed but he would be a huge addition if healthy. He would be a huge upgrade for our second line center.

I don't think I'd want Turbo or Ferland playing with Staal.

Staal is premier possession player but he is so slow and provides little to no offense, in fact there are three separate 6+ game stretches where he failed to record a point. He'd be fine with McGinn and whoever on the third line but I think Turbo and Ferland need a more offensive minded center. I don't think that person is Wallmark but I think he's a better fit than Staal.

I'm also pretty concerned about Staal, this could be something that keeps him out the year or longer.

You won't find a better fit for a 3rd line Center and #1 penalty killer than J Staal.  Problem is, the team he's been on with youth/lack of skill (and his salary) has had to rely on him for much more over the years.  I love Staal's game but it has to fit where it belongs and we've rarely, if ever, utilized it as such.  Early on in the year with him and J Williams on the same line it felt like they would literally never score a goal.  I still hope to see him cause he would be perfect in that 3C role.

Just wanted to come back to this a say Staal has been great since returning for injury. I know it is a small sample size but if he keeps it up he was just what we were missing. I think his return is why we didn't make any moves at the trad deadline.
