Average Analysis: Buffalo

Recommended Posts

There are some games of American football that make you proud to be a fan of the sport, that showcase all the glory that can be contained in the massive chess game and the one hundred yards of turf. When you watch these games, they make you want to beat your chest and yell triumph to whatever heathen gods allowed such beutiful violence to be placed upon the earth.

This is not one of those games.

Both of these teams are marginal at best. You know it, I know it, they know it. I'm not even going to bother breaking down each section of the game this week. I'm just going to say a few things: If Carolina has a drive that goes ten plays and eight of those plays are not on the ground, then the drive will go in Buffalo's favor. If Carolina attempts to force the ball in the air to the hands of an upset star reciever to make him happy, those plays will go in Buffalo's favor. If Carolina winds up in a large number of special team situations, they will go in Buffalo's favor. If Carolina can't contain a legitimately talented rusher on a crappy team for a third week, then that area of the game will go in Buffalo's favor. And if Terrell Owens somehow remembers how to play football this week, this game is lost.

In short, there is no logically concievable reason that the Panthers will loose this game. These are two remarkably one dimensonal teams just jockying to not be named the worst team in their respective divisions. It will be boring to anyone not a fan of either team, and in the end it will mean nothing. Drink heavily and look forward to the much more interesting match up next week.

But for what it's worth.....

Final Prediction

Panthers 21 Bills 17

Panthers score twice on the ground and add another notch to the growing number of tight end touchdowns in the air. Bills score once on the ground, once on either special teams or defense, and then get stopped for a field goal.

I just want us to get to .500, and continue to improve their play on defense. If those things happen, I might be able to start looking at this season in a different light. That is until next week, when I start getting flashbacks and nightmares of last years playoff game.

I actually think next week's match up against the Cardinals is a much more even one and therefore would be an easier gameplan and subsequent win than this one, which hangs on the balance of not f**kin' it up.
