The kind of stuff he would get fired for is if he traded future draft picks or giving a huge contract to a bust player.   If we compare everything against the best case scenario then the bar is set unrealistically, he was doing things that made sense at the time.

Saints are not perfect, they traded up for Davenport who appears to be injury prone and their hole after Brees retires got a little deeper.

Wins are wins. We have the 9th best record in the NFL. A lot of fans are envious of our position.

I believe we can beat the rams. Division games are usually competitive so don't be shocked if we beat New Orleans. The Chiefs haven't looked invincible; we can beat them too.

Did you also believe we could beat the Steelers?

How about the Lions? Heck, even I  believed we could beat the Lions.

Quick Tip: Record isn't always a reliable thing to go by.

If you think the only time you fire a GM is when he makes an obvious mistake, then as mentioned, that's a pretty low standard. That's the kind of mindset that keeps a guy like Marvin Lewis coming back year after year... with the same results.

GMs and head coaches get fired by smart teams for not being good enough to win championships. That's what the NFL is about. You don't pay these guys millions of dollars a year to make a "decent showing".

(unless you're Jerry Richardson, of course)

The draft choices weren't too bad but come on.  Our free agent signings (excluding Reid) have been useless.  We could have used that for a DE.

Sure it is hindsight but Anderson barely saw the field, Smith was not worth the money and our D-line is getting long in the tooth.

On a side note, I have always been a big supporter of Rivera but his freaking loyalty to Vets is getting out of hand.  We draft young players and then they sit for the majority of their career here because Rivera won't play them.  They'll make mistakes but until they get some actually playing time.  They aren't going to learn watching from the bench. Especially when they are more talented than those on the field now.

I believed we could beat them. The Saints lost to the Bucs and should have lost to the Browns. Any given Sunday. The favorites do not always win. The Patriots lost to the crappy Titans the other day.

Yet you always bring up record when discussing a former GM.

Our record for this year isn't set yet. And if you think the Saints early season loss to the Bucs says anything about who they are now, you're dreaming.

Teams dont stay static throughout a  season. Sometimes they hit their stride. Sometimes they start to fade.

The Saints are surging. We're fading.

Heck, there are teams we beat earlier in the season I'm not sure we'd beat now (the Cowboys, for example).

Something to consider...

With the number of vets that are likely going to be heading out to pasture after this season and a fairly small number of players currently on contract, next offseason has the potential to be a major retooling of the franchise that could define the Panthers franchise for several years.

Do we really want Marty Hurney to be the architect for that?

Excellent point

no, we don’t
