Fire Hurney

Something else to consider...

For whatever else you think of him, Dave Gettleman had a strong enough resume' and personality to oppose Ron Rivera when he thought he was making a mistake. Both men have stated that they had a very good working relationship, but also that they disagreed and fought plenty.

Hurney, on the other hand, has neither the background of success nor the strength of personality to stand as firm in opposition of what Rivera wants. And honestly, he doesn't really seem to be trying. Their relationship is generally said to be pretty synchronous, which might sound like a good thing, but it's really not.

Why? Because it means that barring his being let go for a new coach, Hurney remaining GM equals more power for Rivera.

Now, you might suggest letting go of Rivera and keeping Hurney. Then, as mentioned, Hurney chooses the next coach. That's not a situation I'm comfortable with either.

Like I said before, I genuinely think the best thing that we can do is move on from both. I know people don't like the idea of going with unknowns. While I grant that's scary, I'll take that over somebody I do know, and who I know isn't very good at what they do, ten times out of ten.

Rome wasn't built in a day. It's going to take awhile for anyone to fix the mess the previous guy left behind. In five drafts it's looking more and more as if only his last one was even decent. Gettleman was absolutely terrible at drafting. You can't expect anyone to right the ship overnight.

Hurneys JRs guy plus he isn’t very good. I think he’s just drawing a check at this point. He’s as good as gone and knows it.

I don’t trust him  with a bank roll and the upcoming draft.

Time to move on from this chit show

According to reports, David Tepper has removed pretty much every trace of Jerry Richardson from BOA. If it weren't for the 15 foot "contractual obligation" standing outside the stadium, you'd never even know Richardson had anything to do with the team.

Perhaps doing the same sort of thing on the personnel side is on the horizon.

The approval of his ownership bid didn't come at a good time for doing anything of that sort, but nothing would stop him from doing it this offseason.

Not understanding what hurney has done to lose the gm job so far, I’m all for having a fair competition at gm I’m the offseason but not gonna act like hurney hasn’t done and above average job at gm

Hurney doesn't have had to do anything to lose the job. The only thing that needs to happen is for the Panthers owner to identify someone whose better for the job. Do you believe Hurney is the best possible person who could be the GM of the Panthers? He was essentially handed the job by Richardson.

Hurney 2.0 has been decent, even solid, but don't we need more than that? We have major decisions to make this offseason and some long time Panthers could be calling it a career. The Panthers need the best personnel man they can get. Is that Hurney? With all the outstanding candidates out there with far superior scouting backgrounds and experience, I kind of have my doubts.

If what we got out of this year's offseason counts as "nailing it" (especially in the free agency department) then I think some of our fans don't exactly have the highest of standards.

Low standards are what keep guys like Marty Hurney and Ron Rivera employed.  As long as the fanbase is okay with "good enough" and doesn't insist on things like, you know, championships, then I guess we're fine as is.

Which GM nailed the offseason?
