Fire Hurney

Am I the only one who's not impressed with what Hurney has brought to the table since coming back?

I'm cool with Jackson, and pretty cool with DJ, I'm just not real sure what else he has done for it to be considered a solid campaign so far?

You're not alone.   Hurny has always gotten rave reviews around here after his drafts and FA.  As time goes on and his selections get their chance to play they always fizzle out.   He's not even an average GM, he sucks donkey balls as a team builder.   He gets way too much credit for his first round selections because they ignore the reason they were selected so high in the first place.  His teams were so bad due to his inability to build a complete roster outside his first round pick, which was mostly in the top 10.  Hard to miss when you are always drafting in the top 10.  He can't be fired soon enough in my book.

You gotta consider what happened here--RR probably campaigned to get Marty hired as an interim.  Then Marty gives RR an extension.  SWEET GODS of NEPOTISM!  Then RR hires NORV to return the favor from SD, and tells him, "Why not?  Bring the whole family--we have jobs galore!"

The end.

There was nothing easy about MH's draft:  First, he had to choose Moore over Ridley.  Not an easy call to make, but it has worked out.

Then taking Action Jackson in the second round--not an easy pick-there were other highly-rated CBs on the board.

I think Gaulden will work out, but Hurney probably should have gone OL here.

Thomas will be a good one in the long term.

Not a huge fan of Haynes, but we shall see.

Carter is going to be a special teamer/depth player for his career, and do not be surprised if Andre does not do more...I have no clue about Norton--not impressive in preseason--on PS.

That is a good draft.

Free agency?  Signing Reid was great. Wright was a great signing.  Searcy was a solid signing, and Poe looked good on paper.  Torrey Smith at $5m is not bad bargain shopping.  CJ Anderson was a great addition, and imagine where we would be without Clark. Perhaps his biggest free agent signing was to get Peppers to ink another year, especially after Hall turned out to be a bust.

This season could have been catastrophic.

Why I used to Hate Hurney:  Now, I am not a Hurney fan--when he started trading away next years' firsts for players like Otah, Brown--the 33rd overall pick for Armanti Edwards, trying to trade up for Jimmy Clausen after 2 teams that desperately needed QBs at the time (KC, Minn) passed on him---I vowed to get a ski mask and sock full of pennies and find him---he was mortgaging the future to desperately save his job.  He spent something like $75m in cap room re-signing players from teams that went 2-14 and 6-10.   He let Atlanta bluff Charles Johnson's price up and he gave crazy money to 2 RBs.  He did not bring in fresh blood.

What the hell has Hurney done wrong...so far? He got rid of Benji (thank god) for draft picks, resigned Trai Turner, Olsen & TD, made some solid picks in the draft (DJ & Jackson) & got us a reliable slot receiver in Jarius Wright.

Getting rid of KB mid season was a mistake.  The same as getting rid of CJ midseason will likely end up being a mistake (if Ron doesn't choke away a probable playoff year).

Trai resigning was DG's work, and in hindsight may have been the wrong move vs. letting him walk and keeping Norwell, which I preferred.

Poe was/is a bad signing.

Olsen getting extended was a dumb move.

I already said picking up DJ and Jackson were good moves....I think.  It's still early there.  The rest of the draft wasn't awe inspiring, although I do like the TE.

Benji deserved to go. He had never injured himself in '15 he might have turned out to be All-Pro but then again we might not have reached the SB. He's injury prone & has the attitude of Angelica Pickles from Rugrats.

True, signing CJ was a mistake but we had no idea CMC was going to turn out to be this useful.

DJ, Jackson & Thomas have been good picks so far. Teams usually keep just 2-3 of their 7 picks & we've got 'em.

I'd say give him another season. 2017 was mostly Gettleman's work, but Hurney finished the job to 11-5. This year's 6-4 is a little concerning, but we ARE still in the playoff hunt. Give it time.

I would rather rehire gettleman and then fire him again honestly.

10 years from now we are going to look back on Gettleman and realize it was him who sabotaged our two hall of famers careers more than anyone else.

The consistent failures of his draft picks will haunt this franchise into the twilights of Luke and Cams careers.

KB was traded, we went to the playoffs, and Cam was throwing to me and you.  The very same thing could happen again at the RB position this year.  You happen to remember the 2005 playoffs?

Teams almost always keep more than 2-3 players of a draft in the first year, not sure what you are trying to say there.  DJ has shown flashes....yay.  He should, he was the 1st WR off the board.  Same as Jackson in showing flashes (I do like him though).

Let's recap a bit.

Gano and his absurd contract over a younger, cheaper Butker.

Signed Poe.  Enough said.

Torrey Smith?

Reid was out of necessity, and every member on this board was calling for him.  Not a hard decision at all.

I could go on, but I have been beating this horse for years....it seemed to die, now it's back to life.

I can tell just how little you have paid attention over the past 7 seasons.

I admit, Poe's been so-so but so was Star. Star's making around 14-15 mil now, Poe at 8 mil. So basically we saved some money there. DTs ain't cheap no more.

I wanted Gano to be gone after '16, but after his pro bowl '17 season & making the 63 yarder against the Giants, DAY-UM. Yes, he sucked yesterday but every Kicker gets one free pass every season. But no more now. If he starts sucking like he did 2 years ago, Gano is GONE-o.

I think we already knew Torrey was going to be a bust when we traded for him & wanted to use him as a locker room leader. Thus, we drafted DJ.

Yes, I remember the '05 playoffs. Went down to what, 9th string RB (Goings)?

You're like the only Panthers fan I know who misses Benji.

Brought Clark, Reid, Wright, Van Roten. Not stars but quality role players.
