Sooo.... are we gonna talk about what happened in that Steelers game??

Alright, so what the hell happened last Thursday.

I mean I’m serious.  I feel like I watched a Volkswagon Beetle filled with clowns drive straight off the side of a cliff, and the whole way down they all just started making balloon animals mid-fall.  What a fuging disaster.  Blood/guts facepaint and low-quality balloon animals everywhere at the crash site for this one.

The worst part about it was that this game could have been SO MUCH DIFFERENT had there not been so many mistakes that the Panthers made.  Some of the mistakes were so blatant that even a casual football observer could see, and some were the kind of mistakes that only the real football OG’s could discern.  Let’s dive into that.

SIDE NOTE: Leave it to the Panthers to allow BIG BEN OF ALL PEOPLE to go off in primetime.  Man I hated watching that.  I don’t think I’ve hated something that’s occurred in a Panthers game that deeply since last year when Matt Khalil decided to leave Cam Jordan unblocked and almost got QB1 killed at home vs. the Saints last yr.  Hate him or love him though, this team needs Matt Khalil back something fierce.  You can’t pick up a guy off the couch and put him at LT and expect that honeymoon to last forever.  Let’s get our 50 million dollar man back.  Fug, that O-line was used like a donkey in the desert on Thursday.  Pathetic effort.

Moving on though, lets talk about

THE MISTAKES THAT WERE OBVIOUS TO FUGGING EVERYONE.

Let’s take a quick look at a screenshot here.

Even a dipshit that’s never watched football before can tell that SOMETHING DUN WENT WRONG HERE.  I mean WTF Eric Washington???  Were ya dialing up the ol’ “Outsmart them by being ostensibly dumb” strategy here?  What’s better is the explanation from Voth on Twitter.

LMFAO WHAT??!  YOU WON'T GO INTO DETAIL MY GUY???!? CUZ I'M PRETTY SURE THIS IS ONE OF THOSE SITUATIONS WHERE YOU SHOULD INDEED GO INTO DETAIL.

In his defense though, I mean what else can you say if you’re him here.

This was one of those situations for good ol’ Eric where you just gotta blame it on the dog when you fart at the dinner table.   Any other explanation here besides this, it means you’re out the door.  I SURE HOPE there was a “miscommunication” you bumbling troglodyte.  I could’ve shat a brick when I saw this play.  I’ve watched this team for the last decade+ and I’ve never seen THIS sort of lapse of coherence on defense. All things standing though, this explanation smells like the familiar reek of a dawgshyt excuse but I’ll give good ol’ eric the benefit of the doubt.  For now.

Moving on, lets talk

THE MISTAKES THAT WEREN’T SO OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE

Let’s break down the play that turned this game from a competitive affair to an all-out curb-stomping.  Do you remember when this happened?

Yes, in case you were wondering, that’s TJ Watt in prime position to murder our superstar.

This play was the first play of our ensuing drive after somehow Eric Washington’s defense had another “whoopsie daisy” miscommunication resulting in an easy Steelers opening drive TD.   There was a holding penalty on the Panthers ensuing kickoff that led to this 1st and 10 play from the FUGGING 12 YARD LINE.

This play call was a mistake by Norv Turner.

There is absolutely no reason to call this bootleg play-action pass from this part of the field.  If this play occurred from the Panther’s 25, it’s a different story. Instead,  Norv was like “fug it it’s in the game script, let’s run it anyway” in regards to this call.  By doing this, Norv put cam in a tough spot and FORCED this bad play.  Granted, Cam could’ve… yanno… not thrown a pick 6, but at the same time the Panthers shouldn’t of tried to get cute on the road here.   Huge play ended up essentially wrapping up the game.   I put this shitshow of a play on Norv.  Old balls blew it here, but anyway.

Lets wrap this up with some winners/losers then some final thoughts

WINNERS:

I should say “winner” because the only winner this game was Showtime Christian McCaffrey.

Dude was a baller.  Obviously the franchise has faith in him because they decided to fire CJ Anderson on his day off.   How you get fired on your day off CJ?  Did they catch you stealin empty boxes or somethin???  Anyway,  when it comes to CMAC, this game was just another healthy game, another healthy step towards a HOF career.  This isn’t the first time I’ve said this but, if this guy stays healthy for the next 6-8 years, he’s a first ballot HOF’er.   Promise.

WINNERS LIST TALLY YEAR TO DATE

Cam: 2

CMAC: 2

Curtis Samuel: 1

Matsko and the entire O-line: 1 (hahah remember those times)

LOSERS:

Well damn where do I start.  God almighty.  I could throw a dart at a Panthers team photo and probably bullseye a loser right in the face from this game.  Honestly I like my odds there.    Let’s go against the grain on this one and say Norv Turner.

Norv, you seriously screwed us this game.  IDGAF about all the good things you did to hit a TD on that opening drive, that 1st & 10 from the 13 was a TERRIBLE FUGGING CALL.  Hey old balls, listen up.  You simply can’t put cam in a situation to throw a desperation-off-the-back-foot pass under HUGE PRESSURE simply because he was just trying to avoid a safety.  Ya kinda screwed the pooch there my guy.   You rolled the dice and it came up sevens.  I'd give you the benefit of the doubt if it weren't for the fact that it seemed like you had no understanding of the risk that was taken with this call.  Seems like there were no fugs given here with the call, but either way moving on.

EVEN BIGGER LOSER

The entire left side of the O-line.   It’s prettttyyyy bad when the fan base wants M. Khalil back.  Enough said.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Fug it, this team is still a 13-3 team.  The Panthers looked like deer in the headlights because they were punched in the mouth at the absolute wrong time.  I mean the Steelers scored 14 points in under 30 seconds, AFTER the panthers had to convert a 4TH DOWN JUST TO SCORE ONCE.  That was deflating.  They folded.  They’ll learn from it.  I didn’t think this would be the week they got their last loss of the season, but here we are.   The good news is this:  If the Panthers win out, they earn the two seed in the NFC.   I really do see this happening.  Justttt watch.    If it doesn’t end up happening well damn I’ll just end up being a monkey’s uncle.   Where the hell did that expression come from anyway, I mean what’s so bad about being an uncle to a monkey…  I don’t get the shade.

Detroit’s up next and I fully expect some frustration being taken out on the Lions.  This game will be like a 34-17 type of ordeal.  Call me crazy but I’ve got a hunch.

Till next time though, thanks for reading.

The team was unprepared and overwhelmed.  Say what you will but we are much more comfortable at home than on the road.    Is our D really being micromanaged so if we dont have enough time to prepare there are blown coverages all over the place?  I have no idea how serious is the issue but it was really ugly.

Great post as usual Broku.

That was one of those games that I switched off emotionally early on. I could tell they got shell shocked and collectively, we lost our bearing. That’s easy to detect is you have been a life long WVU fan.

Thursday night games are relatively new as far as I can remember but they are starting to carry a little more weight and pressure similar to the gravity during a Monday night game. National stage, no one else playing.

Most folks say in high pressure situations it’s either “fight or flight” but there is also “freeze”.

I don’t believe we are that bad, that we were underprepared or took Pittsburgh lightly. The Steelers had us off balance early and we never regained our footing. Sound familiar ? (See SB 50)

I took note in the fact that Rivera mentioned on several occasions that they didn’t watch the film together. There is definitely something the team can learn from this game, not all X’s and O’s.

Appreciate the post and the humor.

Who is wanting Matt Kalil back?

And why would anyone want a players who basically tapped out on the team when we were desperate for OT help. There’s a reason he’s not practicing and it isn’t his health. He is done unless there’s an injury.
