How bad was last night? Let's take a look.

The 21-52 loss to the Steelers last night will go down as one of the worst in franchise history. I took the time to look through the numbers, and it was a truly historic loss for the franchise. If it weren't for a late TD to get the score up to 21 points, it would have been the 2nd worst loss in franchise history. As it stands, it is the 3rd or 4th worst loss by point differential.

  1. 52 points is the highest point total allowed by the Panthers since Ron Rivera became head coach in 2011.
  2. 52 points ties the franchise record for most points allowed. The Panthers lost to the Raiders 9-52 the final game of the 2000 season, still the worst loss in franchise history
  3. The 31 point differential is the 2nd worst loss of the Ron Rivera era, second to a 7-40 loss to the Seahawks during the 2016 season. The infamous game Cam Newton was benched for not wearing a tie to a meeting, and backup Derek Anderson threw a pick 6 on the opening play.
  4. The 31 point differential is also is the worst loss of Cam Newton's career, through little fault of his own. Keep in mind Cam did not start the loss against Seattle in 2016, therefore the 31 point loss goes down as the worst start of his career.

How the Panthers respond to this historic loss will define their season.
