Why Rivera is almost certainly not going to fire a coordinator during the season

It goes against his mindset of keeping the same guys in December that you had in July.

Whether it's noble or not, Rivera takes pride in not ditching a guy (coach or player) based off of one game, or even a series of games, while we're still on the field. It's 50-50 to me if Washington is back after this year, but for the people expecting him to be fired soon -- it'd be a big surprise and would mark a change in philosophy for Rivera.

All that aside, the Panthers have fired a coordinator mid-season, what, once? I know we have a new owner but Tepper isn't going to call Rivera and say "it's you or Washington."

2 minutes ago, Mr. Scot said:

Washington is a guy Rivera has talked about like a protege. Hard to imagine him dumping him midseason.

That decision would likely have to come from higher up than Rivera.

Using Rivera and “protege” in the same sentence gives me nightmares

Pretty sure Ron knows he’s auditioning for the job as HC of the Panthers. In past years he had JR backing his every move, this year he has Tepper deciding whether he stays or goes.

Really wouldn’t be surprised if we see a change in how much Ron is involved with the D, possibly to the point where he starts calling plays.

At the mid-point in the season Washington absolutely appears out of his depth at DC. Of course players have to execute, but you also have to put them in positions to succeed. Look at what Norv and Co. have done with our patchwork O line. If Rivera doesn't fire Washington, I hope he will assert his authority over him and help him with play calling and scheming. I'd rather just get rid of him now and have Rivera call the defense, but I'm just a dejected fan and I don't know what the actual inner workings of the team are right now.

You people really dont know anything about investing do you? Surely most of you are not hillbilly construction workers spending your paychecks on Bud Light and hot wings. Surely some of you have a nice stash..invest, and make your profits from it.

Yet people are talking about how Tepper is going to upend this poo because of this loss. Lesson #1. Take the emotions out of investing. Why is that important? Because Tepper didnt invest THAT mush money on emotion. Furthermore he knows damn well enough to not let emotion control decisions. Like RR or not...he is the most successful coach this franchise has ever seen by far. Playoffs 4 or the last 5 years. Maybe Tepper wanted very badly to win this game. Sure. But he didnt and wont be so sour about it he is just going to throw out the most winninest coach in franchise history because we lost badly to a emotional connection of a team. You don't get Tepper kind of rich investing based on emotions!!!!!!!!!

Who is it so many think is going to come in mid-season as a DC and suddenly correct this mess and not miss a beat...and we get to the playoffs and/or a conference championship? Noone. If Tepper were as stupidly emotional as so many seem to be, and fired RR in the offseason...what coaches are available that would even be on the market, and also have a better record? None! We aren't going to go with a new up and coming coach in the last years of Cam/Luke...and of course losing Pep/Greg/the good Kalil, TD..and a few others also that will retire or go elsewhere.

I know so many have a hard on for Tepper...and the phrase our fearless leader threw around was " ready to win". Tepper made an investment...and despite what so many think he isnt a tailgating fan like you and he will profit from this investment regardless of we win or lose! Dont believe it? Look at what this team was bought for...vs what is was sold for!! Tepper is a businessman...not a "fan" like everyone wants to believe.

You have a guy making the same mistakes that eother dam near cost us a game or actually does without learning from them.

With a team with this much talent and a closing window, and a Owner as winning hungry as he is.  If Rivera hangs onto him, and we just miss out of the playoffs or get smacked in the playoffs.  He very well could be gone.

He got us to a superbowl with Cam carrying him on his back and playoffs 4 out of the last 6 seasons (without Cam itd be a different story and he'd been gone back 6 yeats ago when Jerry was on the field and stared him down in warmups letting him know how hot his seat was)

He gets to conservative with his staff and refuses to make the changes that could bring W's in the owners eyes, his seat is going to get Real hot Real quick

as far as i know (could be wrong) rivera has blamed coaching exactly 0 times in any press conference. he blames players. they need to execute better. if we're pass rushing with 2 guys and drop the 2 DEs into coverage and allow a 30 yard pass as a result, well the 2 pass rushers should have executed better and defeated the entire offensive line. it's not the playcaller's fault for being a bonehead.
