This may be the worst defensive play call I have ever seen.

2 Things:

1) I still believe in Ron Rivera as a coach, especially on defense

2) His worst fault is probably his loyalty and wanting to help his guys succeed... promoted Shula when Chud left, and promoted Wilks (who probably wasn't ready) and now Washington (who definitely isn't ready).

There are worse personality traits for sure, but they need to be corrected.  And people need to remember, every other good coach has done the same thing, included Belichick, Reid, Payton, etc.

Ron just has to correct it now before it derails the season

This is what happens when the assistant coach of the assistant coach of the Coordinator finds himself calling the plays 2 years later.

This is what happens when Ron Rivera is afraid of hiring a DC that might be good enough at their job to threaten his own job security.

Starting to wonder if Luke is fed up with this shet play calling.  I would be.  He is to damn smart for this shet.

Shite coaching is wasting years of both Luke and Cam's careers.... Washington just may be the worst coordinator we have ever had considering we had Shula and Henning that is really saying somthing.

Can anyone tell me what the fug I am watching. We have DE's and DT's 5 + yards down field in coverage and Short and Luke as the only pass rushers on a fuging 3rd & 3. This play alone should be enough to get Washington fired. I mean watch Short's half-assed effort while Luke is trying to bull rush 3 fuging linemen. Watching this makes my fuging eyes bleed.

So, our head coach is supposedly a defensive expert

his passive acceptance of this stupidity indicates he approved of it as he called no timeout to stop it

by anyone’s measure, last night was a nationally televised fiasco......

.....owned by, directed by Ron Rivera.  His players. His coaches and one would like to hope for his millions he at least reviews his coordinators game plans and provides guidance on in game adjustments...

Was this the play where Big Ben was just standing there in shock with 15secs waiting on someone to tackle him and just said f-it I will go ahead and just throw it.... There were so many plays where I said will someone tackle the guy . I mean Conner didn' even have to play the substitutes were having a field day.

This was actually where I turned the TV off.  We were still (score wise) in the game, but there was no way we were winning once that happened.  It seems small, but our DC doesn't have any idea how to call a game, and the NFL is not the place he should be trying to learn it.

It's a real shame we're going to lose a fantastic D Line coach because of it.

No way am I clicking that link or ever willingly subjecting myself to that Defensive (lack of) performance again. That said, at least it kind of worked with Peppers once. Probably felt like he was a genius when that happened so he Shula'd and just kept deciding to to do it. Even a blind deaf albino squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Except this one. This one died a long long time ago.

Well, the game was re-aired on NFL Network around 2 PM today (or was it 3?). I already had the station on, so I watched the first drive. But then I really had to focus on work so I switched to Spotify instead. So I don't know what happens afterwards. I'll just assume we continued to dominate like that first drive.  :liar:

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
