2015 Panthers vs 2018 Panthers

Cam and TD seem to disagree and wanted to know the Huddles opinion. Personally I'll have to take the 2015 team. They were great defensively. Offense 2018 team is alot more electric. But overall, the defense in 2015 was just insane. Even with old Peanut Tillman and Roman Harper. Ive had the same feel for the 2018 team as the 2015 team. I was looking back at some old files and actually found the complete game against the Seahawks and Packers. And the Seahawks game was our statement game just like I felt the Eagles game this year was our statement game. Interested to here you guys opinions.

This offense has the ability to be a lot better. But they for sure haven’t peaked to the level where the 2015 offense overachieved. But I think they will surpass that group if they keep trending up.

Defensively I don’t see it. The back end may certainly be better with Donte, Bradberry and Reid but the pass rush isn’t quite there.

yea that was another area pass rush was great in 2015 which allowed alot of interceptions to happen. We have been good in key parts this season in pass rush. Best overall game was last week. But still haven't clicked yet on the dline. I was thinking if star really made that much of a difference on our Dline?

of course he did. kept linemen off the linebackers and held off double teams so that KK could have more 1on1's.

guys like Star dont grow on trees

thought this would be a position by position breakdown, that wouod be cool.  I agree our O is much better than 2015, but im not sure I agree about the D.  Our front 4 wasnt any better really just blitzed well.  we might be better in the secondary

The defense in 2015 isn't as good as a lot of people seem to remember... we got a lot of turnovers and had good red zone defense, but it certainly wasn't dominant like the 2013 defense.

The pass rush was no better than this year... CJ was injured a lot of the year and Jared Allen was on his last legs.

The 2018 offense definitely has more talent at the skill positions, but we have not remotely been as effective throwing the ball deep. Cam lit up teams deep in 2015.

Also, the 2018 schedule is much, much harder.

I personally think this team has a slight edge in pure talent, but there is more competition in the NFC.

The 2018 Saints and Rams are better than the 2015 Seahawks and Cardinals IMO.

We'll see what happens. I am enjoying this season, and I hope we can continue to develop on both sides of the ball and play our best going into the playoffs.

This team is already on pace to have the first back-to-back winning seasons and make the playoffs for the 5th time in the last 6 years.

I want to see the Panthers win the Super Bowl like everyone else, but I also want to live in the moment. One day we will look back and realize these were "the good old days" as a Panthers fan.

it will be nice to get that back to back monkey off our back so I will never have to hear that again

This is a good point. 2015 was special, we were a special team, and it felt like we were a team of destiny. However there really wasn't any team in NFC that challenged us or was built to test us.

2018 has more potential on both sides of the ball. 2015 simply unlocked it's greatest potential and kept rolling with it through the season.

At this point in the season the 2015 team was the worse 8-0 team in the NFL In 2018 we are 6-2 and largely forgotten.  The 2015 got us to the Superbowl. For this team to be better they need to win it all. That is also the only way this franchise gets the respect so many of you seem to crave.

I enjoyed the 2015 team all the way to San Francisco and hope this ride ends in Atlanta in February in Cam's home town. I am enjoying the ride and will hold judgement until I see where and how this ends.

Cam wasn’t disagreeing.  He just didn’t want to throw his past teammmates under the bus.  It’s why he never directly answers like “is this your best group of WRs?” or like whenever they ask him about his OLs.

He knows better.

Both offenses are good. But if we fielded this team in the SB against that Denver D, I think Norv would have done a better job adjusting. And we have McCaffery as a safety valve this year

There is a misconception that 2015 defense was lights out. We played great D in the superbowl against a conservative one dimensional offense that let its D carry it. We also jumped on the Cardinals early in the NFCS, but outside of that, the 2015 D had suspect moments and late game collapses like this year. But I still think 2018 Defense is worse than 2015 overall even though I think the corners are better in 2018. I know we had Norman in 2015, but I'd take Bradberry and D-Jack over the 2015 corners.

Outside of the corners, LB play was superior in 2015. LB play has dipped this year. And front 4 was a lot better. Our front 4 is not good this year, but Washington is doing a good job working around that with disguises and blitzes.

Those are my thoughts. By the end of the regular season this team could very well be better than '15 but at this point neither our offense or defense is where that team was at the end of the year.

I will say though, I think that 8 games in we are further along than we were halfway through 2015. Doesn't at all mean we'll continue to get a lot better like we did in '15, but it's definitely better than being behind where we were midway through '15.

The 2018 offense is much better than what we had and were in '15. Game management was slow getting started because new OC this year, but at this point I think it's much better.

On defense...it's a stretch, though I can see this D being better heading down the road.

    • I don't really like the phrase, "moral victory". I get what's meant by it, but does that mean that if you do the opposite (play poorly but win) it's an immoral victory? 🤔
    • I blame Evero because he is overrated. Vance Joseph created the defense in Denver that he took credit for. Wilks ran the ball down his throat and Darnold had a 103.8 rtg.  Last year we were decent in yards allowed, and horrible in everything else. Only reason? We kept giving up good field position.  He's had his choice of players to bring in since his scheme is so "complicated." Maybe he should stop trying to be so fancy like running Cover 4 on 3rd and 1 earlier and focus on fundamentals like tackling. These years of Eric Washington, Phil Snow, and Evero must have gotten you confused on what a real defense looked like. Go back and watch the McDermott and Wilks years- this dude is sofT.
    • I tried to make it a point in the opening post that I don't think the offense is a finished product. I think we still need more talent at WR, better play calling, catch more consistently, elimate ridiculous penalties,  and be more consistency in scoring points. I'm just saying, they look markedly better than last year imo. They have scored 20 or more in 6 games and 30 or more in 2 games. And that's particularly notable considering they only mustered 10 points and 3 points in first 2 games of this year and they got blanked on 0 points two games in a row to wrap up last season . I'd say that's a market improvement.  I'm not crowning them and saying we have a top 10 offense or anything.  I'm comparing them to themselves in recent history.
