I've seen enough. Hurney, do it.

Gettleman was reluctant to extend Olsen and Davis . The two have been two of our most important players. People wanted R. Kalil cut, but Hurney 2.0 knew his value and it's paying off. His evaluation skills are underappreciated.

Davis has pretty clearly lost a step and Olsen missed games due to injury. I'm not confident he's got that much time left.

To his credit, he hasn't extended Davis beyond this year yet (something about which Davis has grumbled).

He's still one of our most important players. We wouldn't be 6-2 with Mayo starting.

Olsen is old and not 100%, but he's still a top 10 TE. There weren't any good, affordable TE's in FA and we addressed the position in the draft in case of another injury. The extension was a pretty smart move.

Four of those eight games didn't involve Davis due to his suspension.

I hope he leaves just to piss you off.

Bottom line, Charlotte ain't Reid's kinda town...he's just carpetbagging down here and looking for a springboard back into a market that supports his ill-defined platform and gives it/him more air-play.

Here's the thing though boss. If he leaves for a better deal, I'm good with that because it's what any player would do in that position.  But it's the embarrassing faction of Panther fans that hate him because he stands for something he believes in.  The grossly misinformed among us.  Trust me, if he left it wouldn't be to piss me off, I actually respect the guy.

Agreed.

I'm not a fan of mid-season contract negotiations because a lot can change between now and the end of the year.

Especially into a Safety market that almost “bottomed out” last off-season. I want Safeties addressed, but not over paying for a couple games in a down market.

I’m sure Reid isn’t in any hurry to give up a shot at UFA again by settling in the same down market.

An extension won't get done until the last quarter of the season, at the earliest. He has been excellent for us so far and I sure would like to see him in a Panthers jersey for the next few years, but...

We need a bigger set of games to judge his overall performance on before we can make a good offer. Also, Reid will be looking for a big paycheck after such a play. If he makes a few more of those, he'll be able to command it here and on the open market, if not then we can look at more reasonable pay levels.

The difference could be a few million a year either way, so it is best to wait until closer to season end. Other teams can't make him an offer until the season is finished anyway, so let's see what happens.

Buying today, though, is buying high and selling low. Best to get something in the middle that suits both parties involved.

I hope he will show some love to us signing him and give a discount

He has to know that the market it limited for him---he needs to start thinking like a fullback and not a premier safety.

Maybe the play is to make him an offer (low, but not that low) and we could allow him to shop around--if he allows us to match any offer he gets--after all, we took a chance on him, we are winning, and the owner supports his position. I doubt he gets a ton of other offers if any.  It is a unique situation.

After he has performed the way he has he will get at least 5 mill a year.
