In 2013 he absolutely was. Other years, and throughout his career as a whole, you're right he wasn't.

Ha.  Ironically he has the same number of sacks in his career than the turd this thread was made for.  And he hasn’t played a full season in 5 years.

the reason gruden gave more than being 4-3 is that the raiders are always losing so haven't had use for a pass rusher because their opponents are always running instead of passing. that's honestly hysterical.

the seahawks ran a base 4-3 and though they mixed it up and used him as an LB, he was primarily a three-point stance defensive end. he would fit here just fine, especially because we aren't playing from behind all the time like the raiders.

The pass rush of CJ and especially Hardy in 2013 made that defense nasty.

Hardy's incredible year created a dilemma going into 2014. The Panthers knew Hardy had too many issues to commit to long-term, but he was too talented not to franchise tag to give them more time to evaluate.

Hardy wasnt a generational talent like Peppers... it took him a few years to grow into being a dominant player, and there's no way to know how long he would have sustained it given his issues, but his 2013 season was as good as any of Peppers' single seasons.

Pep is the greatest DE of all time...its not fair to compare any defensive player to him.

He's one of the greatest DE of all time because of his consistency and longevity. Pep has had over a dozen years that he's dominated. But it's unfair to say that Hardy's 2013 was not on par with Pep's dominant seasons. It absolutely was. Hardy is nowhere close to Pep because he never came close to replicating his dominant year but that single season was absolutely on Pep's level.

Hardy is still 8 years younger.  JJ Jansen said it was going to keep coming and coming http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000356146/Top-100-Greg-Hardy

I'm not saying Hardy didnt show out that year...Im just saying hes no Pep. Pep is a much smarter player. Sacks numbers the same Pep is craftier when it comes to affecting other things.

Peppers was a very lazy player when he was younger and not consistent at all. At one point he was blocked by a TE from sacking a guy. He became a much better player later in his career because he became much more consistent and he actually works. Hardy worked twice as hard as peppers ever did yet still didn't have his talent. Unfortunately for Hardy is that he was unhinged and lived a fast lifestyle that caught up with him.

NFL players have lived fast lifestyles for many decades.  Unfortunately for Hardy the Rice video surfaced, and this world is filled with many gutless sheep.

Irvin isn't a DE. Perhaps he could be used to fill in on obvious pass rush downs but he would need to be signed for well below what he would likely ask for. He didn't fit in with the Raiders 4-3 base scheme so he was released. He won't fit in here either.

Yeah I don't get how people don't understand this
