Bruce Irvin could realistically happen

Irvin isn't a DE. Perhaps he could be used to fill in on obvious pass rush downs but he would need to be signed for well below what he would likely ask for. He didn't fit in with the Raiders 4-3 base scheme so he was released. He won't fit in here either.

Exactly

The year Greg Hardy had 16 sacks, in 12 games he was a non-factor.

Sacks are just 1 piece of the puzzle.

QB hurries are just as important.

16 sacks in 4 games mean you took the game over means we dominated that game on defense means we almost certainly won.

That's exactly what you want from the Peppers/Hardy types. The ability to take over a game.

If it was easy for a DE to take a game over more would do it.

How was Mack doing after his national attention? Went two games with zip(I know he's injured now). Von Miller has 9 sacks yet in 3 straight he got 0. What you just described is a good DE(minus the hyperbole and Hardy had 15 sacks 4 vs ATL in our last game we won 21-20)  Come on Cp...

Ha.  Yeah 60 team sacks, by far the tops in the league (in nearly three decades).  Number 2 in yards per game and points per game.  He didn’t affect play when he himself wasn’t getting sacks at all.  Sure.

I distinctly remember games against the Saints in which he was actually a hindrance; when he wasn't having success, the dude would take plays off. Some weeks he took entire games off.

I'm just not sure he's good enough to justify yet another shakeup on our defense. The pass rush has been revving up the last few games, really since the Redskins game it's showed a lot more juice. I think that momentum will continue as guys continue to get comfortable in their rush lanes.

We need depth for the playoffs. Our last 3 games have playoff implications. We dont want to be dead in the water if Pep or Addison goes down. Its gonna happen...we need to be prepared.

I'm not sure too many teams will want to assume his salary. I think he clears.

Valid, which likely means we won't put in a waiver claim on him either.

There are, of course, other teams that have more cap space than us. I know he wants to play for "a contender" but lots of guys say that shortly before declaring that the team who offered them the most money is a legitimate contender.

Peppers/Hardy types? No. Stop. I'm no world is Greg Hardy an equivalent to Julius Peppers.
