The Bucs come back wasnt Riveras fault

Sorry, but our HC is supposed to be defensive minded and we have not been playing up to our potential. Whether it's Washington calling for our CBs to play off or not, Rivera should be aware enough to correct him and tell him how it should be done. Almost every play, our LBs and defensive backfield back peddles 20 plus yards right before the snap. That poo needs to stop.

Evans had 1 catch for 16 yards and Desean Jackson had 2 catches for 32 yards. We got beat by the TE's and slot WR we have never really played press man against them so what exactly are you talking about?

Your point was rub routes would kill us if we stayed in man.

It's more difficult for the slot to get open on a rub route if the wide out's defender is pressing him - thus preventing the pick.

If the defender is playing off man, particularly in that 5-yard range, that's better suited for a pick.

I appreciate your points, but have to respectfully disagree...  while yes, we didn't go into typical run, run, pass, punt conservative-Rivera-offense, the defense did go into typical Rivera mode...  once we got up, the coverage was all soft...  super soft.  Yeah, we still occasionally brought some extra rushers, but the coverage was soft the entire time until they closed the gap to 1 score.  It's the same thing we've done during all of Rivera's tenure.  Get the lead, play back off the recievers, then they dink and dunk all the way downfield until they get it back close and we have to play REAL defense again.  Someone even mentioned in the gameday thread that after they scored 21 straight, Luke was going crazy on the sideline, and they speculated that Rivera/Washington had taken the calls out of Luke's hands after we went up big...  and what do you know, when they got it within one score, I saw Luke yelling out to the DBs to press up on their guys.  One of them even hesitated and Luke motioned them up again, emphatically, and forced them to play up...  we got the stop, another score and won.

So yeah, it wasn't what we typically see on offense with a lead, but defensively, he did the same things he has always done.

Exactly.    We need to have confidence in our DB's to play at the line, especially since they seem to be really good at it.    You have to slow these receivers down a bit.     I don't know why any team doesn't throw 5-10 yard passes all day against us because it's super easy.     Brees will be doing this when we play them and eat us alive.

But we had dbs running backwards before the ball was hiked giving the WRs plenty of space, to me that’s being conersvaitve.

DB's backpedaling isn't necessarily conservative, it's a technique of whatever coverage they were in.

Let's kill the myth that the Panthers "took their foot off of the gas". I think this is an assumption based on Ron Rivera's history of going conservative with a big lead. In this game, the Panthers actually stayed aggressive, but Tampa made some adjustments that allowed them to stage a comeback.

1. Offensively, the Panthers stayed aggressive and were passing the ball in the 2nd half with a lead. Tampa Bay ran some defensive line stunts to throw off the pass protection and the first 2 drives ended in sacks.

2. Ron actually went for it on 4th and 1 up 35-21. Cam converted but we got an illegal motion penalty. We went for it on 4th and 6 as well but the Bucs got a stop.

3. On defense, the Panthers were still playing a lot of man coverage but the Bucs adjusted by using the rub concepts I showed in an earlier post. When the Panthers went zone to defend these route combos, the Bucs were able to get their offense in rhythm. They also exploited man coverage by attacking that OJ Howard/Mike Adams mistmatch.

4. On the 3rd and 17, it looked like Donte made a rookie mistake. Not sure why he went to the flat and passed of the WR to the safety.

These are all things that can be fixed. I like how the team responded on the 3rd drive in the 2nd half to put the game away. Would've been nice to have perfect execution for all 4 quarters but Tampa Bay is a pro football team too.

Anyone that questions this should rewatch the game 100% agree.

Sorry, but as I'm watching the game again we went back to soft zone after going up 28-7. Bucs ran the ball and went nowhere which set up 2nd and 3rd and long. After going up 35-7, they stuck with the pass, the Bucs just decided to not run and dinked and dunked all the way down the field and they scored. Munnerlyn was by far the weakest person on D all game long and he got attacked, which is Ron fault too. You see Munnerlyn getting abused, take his ass out. The Bucs, knowing they come back against teams had new confidence coming out in the 2nd half. It's this thing called "momentum" that Rivera hasn't grasped yet. I'm willing to bet whatever I have, if we stop them before the 2nd half, the 2nd half turns out much differently.

Jeez folks— Tampa is a good team,.. they are just not closers.

they have the number 1 offense with Fitzmagic,.. not even rated as high as they could be if Winston would never have come back— that offense is perfect for Ryan.

Had Ryan had an offensive scheme and players like that instead of poo teams to play for who knows how it would have turned out for him.

that and their defense decided to show up there for a few series and made adjustments.

they did that to many teams,.. won early because of it and may have a better record again if not for a stupid coach flipping to Winston.

we beat a good team handily.

Any sliver of anything left to complain about. It’s getting pretty hard to take it seriously.

Agree.

Line was Panthers by 6.5.  Panthers win by 14 and huddlers still whine.

This is week 9 in the NFL.  No team has quit yet.  Professionals on both teams.  Enjoy the run.
