Ron Rivera blew all three timeouts on a single point-less drive in a fourth quarter one-score game against a divisional rival

Ron has strengths as a coach. He also has weaknesses. I think we can all say that if you aren't trying to get better you aren't trying and sometimes that appears to be the case when the same mistakes are made over and over again. I don't think people really want him fired as much as they want him to try and correct his deficiencies. With his ability to bring guys together as a unit, if he could get his game management under control, this team could be something really special. It's all up to him.

Strangely, this is kinda how I was with Cam.

Cam has superior size, speed, durability, strength (both running and passing), etc....but lacked some on the touch passes, the timing routes, the nuances of the position, etc....

Never once have I ever advocated to trade him, bench him, cut him, etc...just wanted him to work on the finer points, cut down on the INT's, increase his comp % just a bit, and he would be unstoppable.  Well, with the help of Norv and Co. he has done just that.

The exact same can be said for Ron.  Although to be honest, I have from time to time wanted him out...but what I really want is just for him to get better.  He's a good coach, but he can be better.

Ron is stubborn, and seemingly doesn't self scout very well.  I wish he would.

And hasn't shown it.

No DC in the league is afraid of Torrey Smith on a deep go right now.

He's no Ginn type burner, never was. But that (plus "verteran leadership") is what he's getting paid for. Rivera refers to him as the speed guy to stretch the Defenses. Curtis and Moore are his quick guys to work underneath.

He's not stretching anything but his hamstrings and his career at this point.

He can play the Jericho Cotchery role, but nobody fears Smith as a downfield threat anymore.
