MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS WAS A BEATDOWN. PANTHERS PLAY WITH THEIR FOOD LATE EN ROUTE TO A 28-42 VICTORY AT THE VAULT

EASY MONEY SON

2nd consecutive beautiful afternoon on a Sunday in Charlotte, 2nd consecutive beatdown at the vault.  I know that TB brought the game to within a score late but make no mistake, this would’ve been a TKO in the 3nd round if this wasn’t NFL football with not quite the same rules of a professional boxing match.  I mean just look at this graphic from late in the 2nd quarter

Daym son.

And that was just by halftime.  I told you we’d have a good idea of what kind’ve game this would be today by halftime.  Sunlight shines on a dog’s ass at least twice a day right? I’m pretty sure I’ve heard someone say that before.  Shout out to Tony Gonzalez on Fox.  He made the good guys his lock of the day and looks like ya put your money in the right place Tony.  Two endorsements of this team by two Hall of Famer’s  in consecutive weeks.  Imagine that, two guys that’ve reached the pinnacle of the game they made their life’s work actually know what they’re talking about sometimes.

Before we dive too much into what actually happened in the game, let’s talk about the history between these two, what the various narratives were leading up to the game, then we’ll talk winners and losers.

HISTORY

The Panthers lead the historical head-to-head W-L column at the tune of 22-13.   It hasn’t felt like the Bucs have been relevant in this matchup for a long time.  The good guys swept them in 2015 and also last year in 17’.  Tampa Bay swept the Panthers in 2016 but we all know we sorta tanked at the end there.  Thanks Tampa for helping us get Christian damn McCaffrey.  Tampa doesn’t really scare me anytime we play them when it matters, and they shouldn’t scare you either.

Moving on though let’s talk about:

THE USUALLY LAME NARRATIVES COMING INTO THE GAME

I’ll give a little credit here because I bought one narrative about it being a test for Carolina on Pass Defense.   Tampa did have the #1 ranked passing attack coming into the game.  The “trap game” narrative was lame though.  The Panthers are experiencing that phenomenon that happens when you feel a certain level of success.  This team remembers the team they were when they lost the Washington game and they ain’t bout to go back to those days especially since now they’ve tasted a bite of that domination they’re capable of levying.  The Panthers played with their food today. Welcome back to 2015 guys and gals. It’s nice to see ya’ll here we done found a time machine errybody.  Some credit has to go to coaching here is that fair to say around these parts?  I mean, is it fair to say that the coaching staff built the time machine?  Is it fair to say that Ron Rivera actually might be a good coach?

Where the hell is the dab when you need one

THE PANTHERS ARE BACK THEY’RE ACTUALLY BACK I CAN’T BELIEVE IT I WAS SO WORRIED.    Continuing though, is it safe to say they dodged the “trap game”?   Was there ever a trap? When a bear gets trapped by a bear trap in the woods with nobody around does anybody hear it? Does getting caught in a bear trap make the bear feel the same way I feel when I stub my toe on my bed frame in the morning?   The trap game was a low-hanging-fruit narrative.   We’ve covered two narratives here one I bought one, the other was garbage.  If there were any other narratives here I’m missing who cares at this point I really want to talk about winners and losers because SPOILER ALERT: Donte Jackson made the loser’s list.

THE WINNERS AND LOSERS

Winners:

Oh man where do we start when we’re talking about the winners.  Do I troll you and mention Graham Gano for sending every kick off out of the back of the endzone today?   I don’t know if Graham reads the huddle (it’s the best Panthers forum in Charlotte way better than r/Panthers on Reddit) but if he does he probably didn’t like what I said about how irrelevant special teams stats are in a past article.   Dick move.  My bad.  I promise Ill be more empathetic RE: Special Teams stats going forward.  You my boy Graham.

let’s talk more winners.

TODAY’S WINNERS

First up:  Curtis Samuel.

The sandman had 1 bad drop in the first half on a 2nd and 5 that he’s going to get clowned for in film session but overall this guy had a phenomenal game.  Type of game that makes you check the waiver wire.  That double reverse was a thing of beauty and hats off to him for punching it in.   He also had a crucial TD catch on the last Panthers score after the cats decided they were done playing with their food.  Let’s bring the same energy on Thursday my guy.  If Eric Reid doesn’t get his first interception as a Panther sandman definitely gets the game ball in the locker room.

Next up:  Super Saiyan Cam.

What else is there to say about SSJ1 Cam.  I counted maybe 1 overthrow and one bad read this game.  Cam played a hell of a game and it really doesn’t matter what the stats say.  He continued to make plays when it counted and had an excellent day at work.  My favorite Cam moment from today was where he trolled the Bucs into two consecutive Neutral Zone Infractions late in the game then hit the shimmy on em’.  When Sweet Caroline played it was all smiles.  During the song he came into the huddle singing at the-more-liked-Khalil and Ryan couldn’t help but sing out an “OHH OHH OOOOOH” to finish the measure.   You have to accept it at this point.  Cam is the leader of this team.

Let’s talk losers even though this section is hard to create material for now-a-days amirite

TODAY’S LOSERS

The only loser on this list today:   Donte Jackson

Now before you take your pitchforks to the comment section on an article I've spent a few hours on I need you to hear my reasoning here.  Yes, Donte had a good game on paper.  1INT and he’s in the DROY discussion but there’s levels to this ish.   Later in the 2nd half the Panthers sent Jackson on blitz.  It was a run play by TB and he missed a tackle that was cleaned up by his teammates fortunately but this guy decided to celebrate like he actually accomplished something.  Sure, it was a good play but your TEAMMATES cleaned up your mistake.  You don’t get to celebrate when you miss tackles.   That’s the type of stuff that gets you on the loser’s list in a Broku article.  I can guarantee you Coach Rivera will point that out to Donte when they review the film.

That’s concludes the loser list here because finding losers on this team has become a splitting hairs type scenario recently so what’s next?

Ah damn this is the part where I’m supposed to actually breakdown the game.  Whoops didn’t expect this article to run that long I’ll have to cover that more in depth next time folks.  Do you really want me to breakdown a blowout?  You’re a big deal you’ve got better things to do with your time.  Promise.

I will breakdown a few things that stuck out though.

First two Tampa drives:

-3 and out

-INT to Eric Reid (that’ll cost ya 15k Eric you know you’re on thin ice with the NFL buddy)

After these first two TB drives I couldn’t help but think “So much for #1 passing offense in the league.”  Bucs blew their chance at this whole “trap game” narrative with their first two drives.   Thanks for visiting the Vault come back soon.

Oh man now that I think about it

HOW DID I FORGET THAT CMAC JUMPED OVER A GROWN MAN TODAY?!?

That happened right?  Did Cmac jump over a grown man today?   Jeez.  I just gotta thank the Bucs man.  Thank you so so much for sweeping the Panthers in 2016.  This wouldn’t be possible without you.  If this guy stays healthy the next 5-10 years he’s a hall of famer.

On the defensive front Mario Addison had 3 sacks today, and man he deserved it.  He’s honestly on a team friendly contract and is a huge staple of this Defense.  Let’s all bow our heads and pray this guy stays healthy this year.

Last play that stood out to me.

4th and 1 later in the 2nd half with a chance to convert and put the game away on a play Cam got 1st down yardage.   What else would happen but an ILLEGAL SHIFT penalty on this play? Last week’s pleasure vs. this week’s pain right?  Love it when we are the benefit of these calls but this one hurt.   Gotta clean things like this up.  This penalty took a crucial 1st down off the board and resulted in a 4th and 6 that (always conservative) Ron Rivera decided to go for.  We had a turnover on downs here when Funchess came up short on the completed pass from Cam.   No more illegal shifts the rest of the season please.

Wrapping up though let’s talk final thoughts with ya boy Jerry Springer

Final Thoughts:

This team has figured out who they are again.  There’s still a lot of 15’ Panthers on this team and they drank their time altering elixir back in the 4thquarter of the Eagles game.   These guys will be damned before they turn back into the team they were in that Washington loss.  In my opinion, this team only loses MAX 1 more game this year.  This is a 13-3 team.  I do not think that loss comes on Thursday though.  Haven’t put too much thought to it, it’s been too much of a fun ride the last three weeks to do that.  I will dive into a preview of that matchup soon enough but it’s 10p on a Sunday and ya boy got work tomorrow.    If you disagree with anything I say feel free to tar and feather me in the comments.

Thanks for reading.

Donte’s a stretch as a loser. Sure, he did bust a coverage or two but he locked down arguably one of the biggest deep threats in the league with DeSean Jackson paired with Ryan Fitzpatrick. I’ll give him a pass.

A true loser ... honestly hard to think about. Probably Captain Munnerlyn. He gets a lot more flack than he should, but he also deserves some criticism after today. Let Humphries eat him alive a bit.

Otherwise, good stuff.

Jackson deserved to celebrate, completing the tackle or not. He got there on the blitz - Addison would have never made it there for that sack if not for the extra time Jackson provided by getting there first. I'm not going to fault him for missing the tackle too much, Fitz got lucky with the blind side spin to get away.

It wasn’t a sack, it was a tackle for a loss on the play
