Curtis Samuel is the real deal.

This is one of those situations where I'm probably overly hard on Ron about, but ultimately he does get to see the guys practice.

If you believe some on this board (and I'm probably in agreement), we botched time out/delay of game because DJ and Curtis were lined up wrong/didn't know where to line up.

My guess...the young guys are still trying to wrap their heads around the playbook...and it's holding them back some.

I can't imagine coming from Maryland and getting dropped into ours and Norv's playbook....same can be said for a college gadget player that missed a lot of his rookie year.

That said, play them.  Yes, we will take some lumps...like the Washington game, but it will be worth it in the long run.  Also, I think they, barring injury, will be the starters in December and beyond.

not if rivera and co keep finding excuses to keep him off the field. he gets open at will. he could absolutely be a 1000 yard receiver.

Riveras already been quoted in his press conference in saying what can be possible once Torrey gets inserted back into the lineup

This is my point. Of course they'll make mistakes, but they'll make big plays to go along with those mistakes. And with time the mistakes will occur less often, while the big plays increase.

I'll take two or three losses in September/October if it means we'll be a better team in December/January.

It’s strange how fans can see and asses this while the professionals making millions to do exactly that, don’t.

It's easier to say things like this from the couch.  It's hard to be proven wrong until you are, and by the time you are, who is still being held accountable?  I bet Rivera has been right far more times than the Huddle has.  I've seen millions of horrendous proclamations on this site before.

I like Samuel and he deserves more PT, but it isn't like he's tearing it up at WR.  He dropped a wide open pass to begin the game.  If Torrey did that, people would be clowning him.  It's called confirmation bias.  I'm not suggesting Smith > Samuel, but there is no guarantee that Samuel is a good enough receiver yet - most of his work has come on reverses and screens.  I think it's far more outlandish if Smith continues to get more time over Moore than it is if Smith gets more time than Samuel, personally.

Let’s see. One WR is raw to begin with. Then we are asking him to learn all three positions. And he just played more snaps than any WR. It’s week 8. What’s the issue. Would you rather have a few meaningless stats, or watch him hit the rookie wall in DEC.?

I’m not even getting into Samuel. You nor I nor any of us know specifics regarding Samuel. He missed the first month and he’s taking off. Again, what’s the issue?

So your idea is to play every rookie right away, no matter what, even if we lose games? And instead of fresh legs in December, they hit the wall. How’s that help?

You have a valid point. But, do you think Torrey would have made Samuel's TD catch? I honestly don't believe Smith makes that catch - it was a high difficulty hands catch that Cam put a lot of mustard on.

What is funny about it though?

Ya'll keep acting like Samuel and Moore have been that much more productive at receiver than Smith was when he was playing.  The offense as a whole is just playing better.  Samuel hasn't had more than 28 receiving yards in the last 2 games.  DJ Moore only had 1 reception yesterday.  Smith had 61 yards vs Philly including multiple clutch catches and 43 yards on 5 receptions against Redskins with 1 TD.  When Smith is invisible for a game, ya'll only blame him.  When Samuel and Moore go invisible with Smith out, ya'll don't say anything.  It is another example of confirmation bias.

I'm not saying Smith is better than Samuel or Moore, but acting like it is outlandish that maybe, just maybe Smith isn't nearly as bad as ya'll paint him out to be is ridiculous.  Adding him to the equation on the offense can't do anything but help.  It is another weapon.  Moore and Samuel will continue to get their touches.

Who knows?  That's an impossible question to answer.  It's like me asking if you think Samuel would have had the knowledge to break free and make himself available to Newton on that 4th down play that saved us the game vs Philly.

LIS, I'm not trying to argue Smith is better than Samuel.  But we need to stop acting like Rivera is some moron.  If he (and really, Norv; I'm not sure why people think this is solely a Rivera decision, Norv decides the packages) think Smith deserves time on the field, it's probably for a reason.  He's a knowledgeable receiver who knows how to get open.  Is he perfect, no, but neither is Samuel or Moore, and it isn't like they've produced at a high level as receivers since he's been gone.  The offense as a whole has just gotten much better.
