I'm pretty sure that wasn't a consideration (nor would anyone have taken seriously that it was).

Yeah cause Gettleman is a stubborn idiot that way. Thus passing on multiple franchise qb’s and having The Walking Dead behind center while his shiny new toy racks up highlight plays in loss after loss.

They better lose them all though, cause there’s only 1 franchise qb this year.

You were talking about us passing on franchise QBs.

And if you're thinking trade, for anyone to believe we were using the #8 pick on a QB, they'd have to have been an absolute moron.

We did actually get trade offers for teams wanting McCaffrey though (and obviously turned them down).

And we're talking a 27th pick, and a 22nd for our pick.

If we were taking a QB why would we trade the pick? Who would make that trade?

You trade with a team that DOESN'T want a QB so you can get in front of teams that do (or to prevent other teams to trade with that team).

And obviously Gettleman turned them down. He wouldn't even answer the phone this year at #2 to take Barkley (stupidly).

I mean it's fine, especially if we hit gold with Jackson and Moton. All's well that ends well. It's still not a great idea to take a RB early in one of the best RB drafts in NFL history.

Yeah...No one was doing that.

And the whole "don't take this position at this spot" is way overblown. Especially for a guy like McCaffrey who's way more than just a runningback.

Its hard to judge a RB just off of 1.5 seasons.  This is probably a better thread to make once he's played through the 4 seasons of his rookie contract.

Hes already made a gigantic improvement in his rushing performance and becoming a more well rounded player in only 1 offseason. He might be in a different stratosphere if we bring this up again when hes 25-26, and Cam's getting a bit older and leaning on him more.

If we lean on him any more, every play will go to him

I think what may also be germane to this conversation is the Walrus was perhaps the only one who identified Mahomes being worth a big move and played his hand perfectly.

Of course, rookies have flashed before. We'll see how far Reid is able to ride his QB into the future. But damn Mahomes is a baby faced assassin at this point.

He's done everything we wanted him to do since he got drafted.  We knew he was a multi-dimensional offensive weapon, and that's how he should be judged.  He was never a big bruiser like fornette.  so based on that why do people keep trying to find reasons to knock him?  not to mention he's only 22 years old.

Except the team that followed that philosophy beat us three times last year and is currently leading the South once again almost completely off that one draft.

PS they have a guy that's every bit CMC's equal.

Reid-Mahomes may well be another perfect marriage like Payton-Brees.

Still not ready to bet on Reid getting a Lombardi though.
