CMC worth the pick?

So in that draft neither team should of drafted a RB in the top 10?

If you were going to draft either, I liked CMC more. Didn't think that he would be able to stay on the field because he didn't avoid contact, he sought it out. RBs take too much punishment as is. Availability is an ability.

But Kareem hunt and Alvin Kamara are worthy of a top 10 pick even though they weren't pick there.

Saying Hunt or Karmara is purely hindsight driven. Hunt did well at Toledo but had almost 0 national attention. Kamara was good but no one wouldve guessed he would do so well in the NFL (it also helps he went to the perfect team for him in the Saints).

McC has produced on the level of both of those two WITHOUT a top 5 offensive line and top 5 offensive mind running the offense...

Its hard to judge a RB just off of 1.5 seasons.  This is probably a better thread to make once he's played through the 4 seasons of his rookie contract.

Hes already made a gigantic improvement in his rushing performance and becoming a more well rounded player in only 1 offseason. He might be in a different stratosphere if we bring this up again when hes 25-26, and Cam's getting a bit older and leaning on him more.

Totes hindsight, I don't hate the pick and as long as he stays healthy, I think in another year or so I would say he's worth it.

RBs just get injured too often for me to take top 10 for me.

Agree completely.

thats a great point, you have to keep in mind the teams and situations players are drafted into. Kamara went into the absolute perfect system for him (akin to CMC going to the Pats for example) and Hunt is in an amazing offensive system with a veteran offensive head coach and incredible talent all around him.

McCaffrey is on a defensive team, with a  defensive head coach, and a QB who takes a lot of his would be running reps away from him as well (not to mention a scheme thats more about trickery than straight powering your RB down the other teams throat all game long).

He can prove to be a generational talent and take us to the promised land That’s my prediction

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm going to disagree with you there.

And I'm not saying he's not capable of it, but Hunt and Kamara have produced so absurdly mainly because their coaches used them properly from the get go, but CMC's production has not been as good as those two their first 1.5 seasons.

Still too early to throw in the towel though. Now that we have Norv it looks like CMC was a great pick. My biggest concern when we took him was that Shula wouldn't use him properly, and that fear was warranted. Now we have an OC that didn't draw up his plays in crayon so he's looking like a stud, which is awesome.

People forget McC was behind Stew last year and didn't play even half as much as he has this year. McC is producing on their level this year and he still doesn't have the offensive geniuses and OLs that the other two have...

A lot of times what makes a RB great and not just good is longevity. There have been a lot of backs that flashed for 3-5 season  and never did much outside of those. So thats why I say , too early to make this determination yet.

It might seem like hes being dominated by Kamara or Hunt but who really knows if they're going to keep that up, stay on the same teams, players retire, get injured, coaches change, rosters get shuffled on a season by season basis. Longevity is KEY and we don't have enough data yet in less than 2 years.
