5 THINGS I KNOW ABOUT THE NFL THIS YEAR

Broku

Recommended Posts

I know you all have been absolutely dying to get in on a bit of this all-pro action that's been going down in the insider section but I was taught a long time ago some lesson that relates to this in some way I'm pretty sure.   It's been a real "pearls before swine" game plan going on with the Broku articles.  I'm not sure where the pearls are and who the swine is in that expression but I'm pretty sure you all get what I mean. I wanted to hide out in all pro forever but alas everything that's new gets old so here we go.

Let's talk about the 5 things I KNOW about the NFL this year.

Numbah one

The Chiefs will lose in the first playoff game they play this year.

Everyone is hyped up on the Chiefs.  That’s really great it’s so nice to see the same story play out time and time again in front of your face.   I haven’t seen anything different than what past Andy Reid teams have shown in this same situation. Remember that time when the chiefs blew that 10000 point lead against the colts in the playoffs and got embarrassed in front of everyone?  Pepperidge Farm remembers.  This is the same team coached by the same guy.  Can’t sell me on this story this time.  This is the whole "fool me once/fool me twice/how you keep fooling me like this" scenario.   This team is a 1 and done this year.

NEXT

Numbah two:

The Rams will not appear in the Super Bowl this year.

Remember when everyone jumped on the Rams bandwagon last year only to see them get bounced by the Falcons last year when it mattered the most?  I don’t recycle the same jokes but damn this is a great opportunity to.

The Rams have shown that they're a great regular season team the past 2 years. Congrats Rams fans. One of the issues here is that the Rams really don't have a home field advantage. Away teams have been traveling really well to their home games which isn't really what you want to hear when you're trying to pick a pony to make a deep playoff run. Let's think about the other potential contenders in the NFC right now. We've got teams led by the likes of Brees/Rodgers/Newton/Wilson... we can even add Cousins here. 4 of those guys have been to the Super Bowl and 3 have won it. I expect either a loss in the divisional round or in the NFCS for this team.   Jussst watch.

now we're on to

Numbah 3

The Cowboys will make the playoffs.

The last article I wrote diving into the numbers with this TB/CAR matchup made me really dive into the numbers on what’s actually happening in the NFL.

Dallas is in the top 3 in pass defense when you’re looking at total yards allowed per game.  They’ve got a good O-line and their run game is consistent.   Keep an eye on the Cowboys the rest of the way.   They were smart to trade for Amari Cooper.  If their QB can keep it together they should be able to win that division.  What's the deal with Dak Prescott anyway?  I'm trying to find a good QB comparison but I just can't find one.  He's like a less athletic Russell Wilson with a worse arm, worse accuracy, and worse ability to improvise.   Maybe we should scratch that comparison.

ON to the next.  IT'S

Numbah 4 (my favorite one IMO)

Eric Reid will be fined again before the end of the season (for something):

Man oh man.  The NFL absolutely trolled Eric Reid with the fine they gave him for the “you run up ya get done up” situation he got into in Philly.  Why did they fine this man?  Ertz charged him and learned the classic football lesson that the low man always wins.

Carson lookin at the whole scene absolutely bamboozled.  He has no idea what's happening to his homie here

Classic

We all know the NFL hates Eric Reid.

I'm not saying it's going to be next week or even the weekend after that, but the man's on about as thin of ice as you can get.   If he even farts in the general direction of an official or one of the NFL posterboys it's gonna be another 10-14k  out his pocket.  Call it a hunch here but I like the odds.

While we're on the topic of NFL fines.  Let's jump inside the mind of the casual fan real quick.

 Casual fan:

"NFL player fines are nothing.  They make millions of dollars it's not going to matter that much who cares it's like a drop in the bucket"

In reality:

Imagine  yourself losing enough money to buy one or two of these.

Insane.  Granted he hit Carson Wentz a littttlllle late on an arguable call.  Damn the NFL loves some Carson Wentz.   They must of hated it when the Panthers embarrassed them two weeks ago.

And finally.  Numbah 5

The Carolina Panthers will earn a first round bye in the playoffs.

This team is special.  I’ve always thought about the “window” the Panthers have.  The Panthers window is open as long as Luke Kuechly and Cam Newton are healthy.   That’s the truth.  To be honest it seems like Luke will be done before Cam so our window is effectively the length of Luke's career.  Luke scares me sometimes because of the head injuries he’s had, and we’re lucky as a fanbase that he’s still playing.   He's had a lot of these things show up.  Panther fans like to sweep that fact under the rug but it's a serious situation.  It's the type of situation where you're pretty sure his family might be edging him towards retirement at this point.  Alas, Luke is still here.  Cam is still here.  That window is wide the fug open whenever that’s the case.  Something worth being  excited about WE CAN STILL WIN A SUPERBOWL SOMETIME SOON.

Do you remember what happened the last time we had Luke and MVP Cam?

We destroyed everybody in route to the Super Bowl that we lost in devastating fashion.  The Vault was a house of horrors for anyone unfortunate enough to have to play in it.  We dominated teams that were supposedly "good".  The team was amazing and it was an incredible thing to watch.  We can’t repeat anything that happened that amazing year without large contributions from super saiyan Cam and that’s exactly who he’s been this year.  You’re going to see a huge Carolina run soon.  We’re going to get this bye.

And those are the 5 things I know about the NFL this year.  If any of you disagree feel free to comment below I promise I won't assassinate you with intellect geez

Till next time my brothers and sisters.

Exactly! I don't believe the Rams or Chiefs will win the Super Bowl this year. The Chiefs are your typical regular season champs that get figured out in the playoffs and the Rams don't have much experience or continuity, then there is the home field advantage issue. LA is not much of a pro football city unless it's the Raiders, that is mostly USC country.

I need more than “it just happened in the past” to buy that both KC and LAR are gonna get bounced early. I’d believe it more about KC but Reid has never had this type of mojo, maybe at McNabbs peak, but this team is nice. If their defense can get back in shape, they can be a force. Rams are built well especially on offense. They can score at will and their defense is hard to come from behind on. Best bet is try to out-tempo them and make it a race to 42 points, same with Saints. I can buy Dallas actually. Panthers I can buy as well.

NFL will not be sending Reid a Christmas card anytime soon.

Does the NFL’s hate for Reid effect us down the stretch? Does Goodell and his Goon Squad really want Reid kneeling during the SB? Will refs be given orders to flag him at any chance they have? Could this possibly cost us games?

Oh man what a reply.  poo now you’ve got me tripping

    • Wilks is a nobody in the grand scheme of things.  He is right back out of the NFL, exactly where he was before Carolina dragged him back to the NFL.  I don't see what he has to be pissed or salty about. He got a shot with 2 teams and was just a average coach as he has always been.  He is a lesser Fox/Rivera
    • The way BY must play quarterback has a much higher degree of difficulty.  Coupled with his physical limitations his margin for error is small.    The guy evading the blitz and dropping a dime deep over double coverage is more exciting then a wobbling ball thrown into the blitz with good enough placement that gets 6 yards on a 3rd and 5.  It's been beat to death that he will never be the first guy.  He was the second guy vs the Chiefs.    The second guy is harder to do because it's mostly mental:  reading, reacting and processing the correct solution that the defense provided within a second or two.    It's harder to see on film, it's harder to evaluate.  That's why I think there's a divergence between fans yelling "noodle armed middle schooler!!" and analysts going "hold up, let's not write him off yet"    I personally need to see the Chiefs game be the start of growth before getting hopeful.  Ideally would like to see 1-2 300yd multi td games.  Then I'd expect the entire off season to fix his footwork.  With his physical limitations that footwork needs to be damn near perfect.  I would still bring in competition at the QB spot even in that scenario.
