We may get away with blitzing the bucs, but blitzing good QBs is playing Russian roulette

But we had some good nicely disguised blitzes against the Ravens. That Donte Jackson blitz, and the LB blitzes that flustered Flacco were good. Something to build on

Just don’t expect much from the front 4

That's cause Flacco folds against the Blitz, think he's in the bottom 5 qb's against the blitz.

F*ck this zone defense we generally run. We ran alot of man Sunday and our defense looked like it's old self again. But it's this stupid zone that allows our division to carve us up through the air every time we play them.

Side but related note. What's everyone's thoughts about Luuuke in man vs. zone? Preface this by saying I love me some Luuuuke, but I don't feel like he looks like the same player. Still a tackling machine. Still a great field general, but when dropping back in coverage I've seen him miss PBUs and INTs that he was almost automatic on early in his career. I DONT think this is Luuuke's fault. I think it's a scheme difference. Thoughts?

We can do whatever we want in coverage but it all comes down to our pass rush (for any team tbh). Brees has the highest completion % vs the blitz so that certainly won't help matters when we play them. I get your point though, I hate seeing us play off coverage so often.

The general rule is you blitz bad QBs and play zone against good QBs.

Unfortunately, the key to beating the saints is the red zone.  The best way is a bend but doesn't break mentality.  I hate it, but it has shown to be the best.  Make them go the length of the field, taking up time, and making them execute every play.  That's just the way it is with Brees and Payton.  They know this too, which is why they are hyper-aggressive on 4th downs.  They know they HAVE to score TDs to win.

I hate the bastards, but they have built an almost unstoppable offense.

Need to be able to create pressure with blitzes and play cover 1 like this, but also need to be able to create pressure with our front 4, which we have struggled with this year.  There have been glimpses, but creating pressure with the front 4 consistently is key

You can't do it this year. With how the league is set up your best bet is blitz. Until they start calling the WWE choke holds on offensive lineman a 4 man rush isn't going to work.

That and make sure you don't give them extra possessions. Drew Brees is so accurate their isn't much margin for error.

Yup, we can play a lot more single high man then in previous years. Even when the blitz doesn't get there, we're not getting burned for long gains. It's all about improving communication and chemistry at this point. Reid/Bradberry/Jackson need to develop that same relationship Luke and TD have in the middle.

Yup.

Much like Cam (in the past) had to play almost perfect ball to give us a shot week in and week out...that's how it is for the defense against the Saints.

If you make a mistake, Brees will find it, and exploit it....he's just too damn good.

I hope to god that Rivera/Norm go into these games thinking that they have to score every possession.  You have to match the Saints aggression.  If we kick a field goal under 50 yards is a huge win for their defense.

It's my biggest gripe with Ron.  He just trusts his defense too much, and in this division, that's a bad call.

Our record vs. our division over the past few years is nothing to be proud of.

We're 23-20 against the division under Rivera. That's not terrible in this division.

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
