The Heiarchy: The PANTHERS pride of weapons

In every strong pride of big cats in the wild from cheetahs, to panthers there is an order of command. One can say that there is a heiarchy. The biggest Cat rules the whole lot And those beneath him, while equally as great, understand that by working together you can't be stopped. This thread is one that is intended to be an Outlook on how Cam and Norv Turner should consider designing the offense in terms of plays ran to each weapon.

I had to say it but it needs to be said. Cam finally has weapons. If we continue to grow as an offense the level efficiency this offense can achieve is absolutely incredible. And I mentioned this in another post but if I am Norv Turner I could have a playbook for each weapon on our offense 10 plays deep. There are so many players to attack a defense.

Our offensive weapons should consist of this lineup in order of touches/game.  Not including our qb who touches the ball every snap.

1.CMC-sheer obvious producer of yards and points. Max touches max output. Name someone else other than our qb you'd want touching the ball on this team.

2.Greg Olsen- he's got it, I call it the clutch Gene. Crunch time we need a first down\td I'm looking for Greg first. If it's near, it's dear and you can take it home it's a catch baby.

3. Dj Moore-gimme Moore is what Dj has to be saying in the locker to Cam.  Every time this man touches the ball it's like a firework.

4. Curtis Samuel- Only way to characterize his ability is to say that he runs like a jack rabit. Give him an opening and you'll never see him again. His ability with the football in his hand is highly under estimated by the Panthers coaching staff.

5. Devin Funchess- I will say this, we are blessed to have Funchess at his spot on our offense.  He has carved out a role as solid as a big possesion receiver who can box out the defense and make a contested catch. He's just got to get better at catching those that should be a given.

6 and below- anyone at this point is a sub. Give the top 5 threats every rep possible.

We have a plethora of weapons, and this is the order the offense should flow. Tell me otherwise if you disagree. I won't give a fug.

Agreed on all counts. I truly think Ian Thomas will be an adequate heir to Greg Olsen. And Dameire Byrd, as much as I love him, is just a poor man's Curtis Samuel.

We're are a VERY young offense. When these young guys start to get it, LOOK OUT NFL. For real, as well as our offense is playing this season, NEXT YEAR will be something else.

No hierarchy is complete without cam.

i know you covered it, but he isn’t just a quarterback who touches the ball every snap, he is is indeed a weapon of the highest tier in a ranking of of our weapons.

agreed it should be Cam 1, then the rest follow

Add to that...

Franchise QBs do not find their stride until their 5th to 8th season. And I find it hard to blame Cam for the horrible pass catchers he has been surrounded with from 2014 to 2017. It is amazing what Cam was able to do in 2015 with his 2nd and 3rd most targeted receivers sub 50% catching.

Hurney gave Cam offensive weapons to lean on for his first 3 seasons, and he was improving each year. Then from 2014 to 2017 he was stripped of his weapons and forced to make most of the key plays himself outside of a blanketed Greg Olsen. Now, Hurney has given Cam the weapons he needed and we can see a dramatic improvement from week to week. Cam has matured as a QB and he trusts his receivers again. Something I have not seen since 2013.

The SB had Ginn, a rookie Funchess, and Cotchery combine for 20 targets and 8 receptions. Bersin was on the bench. Corey Brown was the most effective WR in the SB and he was just above 50% catching. Then there was no RB out of the backfield that had to be covered. Give Cam some receivers that can catch like a rookie Moore, Wright, a 4th year Funchess, Smith, and Samuel with an outlet to CMC in the SB, and watch how the Broncos D would need to lay off coming after Cam and free up Olsen. The neglect to address the Panthers obvious WR problem for 2 seasons led to a lost Lombardi.

Even though the answer was obvious back then, I am glad it is corrected now with the receiving weapons. Cam no longer has to hold the ball and doubt his receivers.

Marty 2.0 sure is doing a hell of a better job than Dave. And comparatively, a much better job than Marty 1.0.

The weak spot in Marty's old game was that he couldn't do math when it came to the cap. The guy must have studied the hell out of that in  the mean time. Once we shed the bad Matt Kalil contract, we'll see how things work out even better.

I don't disagree. But it's always funny watching Cpk do everything he can to bad mouth dave

After 7 games? Two weeks ago this place was ready to burn this organization to the ground. He had two very good picks and another showing potential. And FA wasn't good. Late pickups of CJ and Reid were good but have yet to payoff on the field. Still think they will. What's so different? We were 11-5 last year. And DG had a lot more bad contracts to deal with than one. We might have had some WRs if we weren't using 20M of cap space on Charles Johnson at 2015. Just so would could cut him the following year for another 4M. That's on top off the dead money.

You are taking it that direction.

My post was about Cam's journey with his receiving weapons, and the value of the receiving weapons currently for Cam. Stick to the topic and do not Hijack this thread.

Say something about the receivers and Cam. Speak to the value of receiving weapons for a franchise QB. The future looks bright.

I can see your point if I really squint hard to the point of closing my eyes... We've done amazingly well since Hurney took over again. The free agent signings have been pretty productive (you think Reid wasn't an upgrade, or Clark, or Anderson (who will get his time to feast). Man, you are just looking for problems and picking some pretty sketchy ones.

11-5 last year on an injury depleted team and this squad is looking much, much better than before.

And draft picks, just look at them. DG couldn't hold MH's draft day jock strap.

I forgot Clark. Knew there was someone. But Reid has made as many mistakes as good plays, so far. But as I said, he's going to do well. But he was necessary because you spent a 3rd on a Safety that can't play ahead of Colin Jones. Could have easily had his brother. I said he did well late in FA. But Poe is nowhere near worth his contract. The DBs got hurt. Not his fault. I'm guessing we got lucky on Breeland. Wright was a good one. Sirles sucked.

So we have an overpaid DT

   2 injured DBs

A RB that hasn't done anything yet

A Safety that has been inconsistent(understandably)

   A good slot WR value

A viable LT who hasn't gotten Cam killed(HUGE PROPS)

CMC, Samuel, and Moton(on his way to being the 4th All-Pro OL DG brought us) Think they aren't doing anything?

And now we are going to use W-L records? Seriously? Something you and every Hurney apologist have cried, meant nothing for 5 years? That the route you want to take? Give Hurney credit for last year? Given the logic on here, Hurney shouldn't get credit for 4-5 years.

23-41-- 2009-12  and salary cap , no playoffs

51- 28-1-- 2013- 17 4 playoffs, 3 DIV. One SB appearrance.

When you want to talk about these numbers, I'm ready.

I think Norv and the Turner family belong at the top.  Look at Cam's completion percentage vs. his interceptions.  He is a better QB--no longer a dual threat--which he is--but Norv Turner has added 2-3 years to Cam's career if he keeps developing.  CMC is better, the OL is better--etc, etc, etc.

Without Norv, Cam is not as good and he offense is only slightly improved.  I would HATE to scheme against the Panthers--how do you stop Cam?  CMC?  The reverses? Options?   Olsen?  Samuel?  etc.   FOR EXAMPLE:  The play where Cam started to run the delayed QB draw and then tossed it to ???? and they ran a reverse--how do you stop that?  Everyone bit on the Cam run.

    • They can’t reasonably fire a rookie head coach who was saddled with one of the worst first overall QBs of all time. And at times made said QB look decent to serviceable.  If the team was 3-11 at this point next season, fire everyone.
