Comparing Cam's MVP Season Start To His Start in 2018 thus far

I may as well just be giddy from how 2015-like yesterday's game felt like, but I have a feeling this year may be brewing something special from Cam. And the stats agree:

Statistically, it's looking far better thus far. He arguably is on pace to shatter his career completion percentage record and has plenty of weapons around him to propel him to that point. Adding on, his numbers everywhere are up.

Some may argue that Cam Newton's early 2015 stats were largely mediocre. Sure, I'd agree. He had a slow start and had the second half of the season to really bring out a briefcase for his MVP bid.

However, it's not like he won't be going on a rampage down the road either. And if last Sunday is any indication, this offense will be trending up. As much as I poo on Rivera, I don't think he's that inept to seeing just how much better this offense is with Samuel, Moore, and Cam running the show.

Right now, Brees, Mahomes, and hell even Jared Goff are garnering the headlines as the league's contenders for MVP this season. However, I'd argue that things are far from settled on that front.

Cam won't be getting any MVP love just yet. But, just like @ladypanther posted, it's only a matter of time before he gets his dues.

Mahomes has it locked down barring injury. There is also the very good chance the Chiefs hit their wall like every Andy Reid coached team does.

All honesty I love Mahomes and he's the literal definition of an elite QB in arguably the best offensive situation in football. The mix of that is madden like numbers.

Though I will admit, this sort of reminds me of 2015 with the Palmer, Wilson, Brady, and Cam MVP debate. 2015 was peak QB play and offensive production all around the NFL. Hell, even Dalton was part of it for a moment.

Mahomes has 2526 passing yards, 26 TDs, 6 INTs, 65.6% completion, 115.3 passer rating

Even if he has a second half like he did in 2015 it’s going to be hard to catch up to those numbers unless Mahomes seriously implodes or gets injured like Wentz did last year.

I don't think his goal is MVP. He wants the big one.

yup, Cam could probably care less about MVP at this point.

Also, every single MVP playing in the Super Bowl  has lost in the Super Bowl since 2000 , last one to win MVP and win SB was Kurt Warner in 1999 season with greatest show on turf.

Was anybody 7-1 and 11 TDs ahead of him at any point during the 2015 season though? That and Gurley is on a blistering pace as well. May reach LTs TD record.

It'll be tough. Mahomes is getting all the attention and Gurley is in LA.

Someone needs to find the 2015 stats of who had better numbers than Cam at that point and how they finished. Were there as many people in front of him when he got MVP or was he the frontrunner this early on?

Brady was the front runner at mid season. The Patriots started 10-0 and Brady had much better numbers.

He had 2410 yards, 20 TDs and 1 INT through 7 games. The Pats losing 4 of their last 6 was a big factor in Cam winning.

As long as either of them stay healthy they should get it

But like we said earlier, Cam probably doesnt give a rats ass about MVP and wants a  Super Bowl. Literally the only thing left he hasnt won

Yep won't argue against that.

Mahomes is playing out of his mind and I'm happy for him. A guy who finally gets in an amazing offensive situation early in his career after Rodgers, Luck, and Cam find themselves in muck earlier on. I'd argue the Chiefs offense right now is historic levels good as well at their pace.

So which is it, only injury or if they hit the wall that they likely will like you mentioned?
