Fire Rivera fanboys must be on vacation

The best part is Torrey Smith getting hurt and proving all of us correct actually slaps the OP in the face. Our offense looked good because the fans who 'don't know more than the coach' were correct and DJ Moore getting the start over Smith improves our team....

Also after the game you see that it wasn't Rivera that called that play to Olsen it was Olsen screaming and our new young QB freaking out and just instinctively trusting him that got us in FG range. Ron was going for the Hail Mary.

All of this.

or maybe all the new pieces are starting to come together...maybe.

All of this. Think about all the guys who either are rookies or haven't played a season with this group yet (Torrey included). We also have a new DC and new OC. Hitting a stride at this point in the season is perfect timing. This is what this group is capable of and its just up to everyone to continue to perform at this level going forward

Like every coach, Rivera has his strengths and weaknesses, but I've never understood the venom he gets. (from some)

Look at the Panthers winning percentage since he's come on board. We've had a Super Bowl appearance, numerous post-season appearances, etc.

I get that he makes some questionable game management decisions (or lack thereof) at times, but he really excels at creating cohesion and belief - building an inspired team, and that is obviously a valuable skill. Many coaches that have been around their team for as long as Rivera have lost the ear of the players. That is CLEARLY not the case with the Panthers. Guys play for him. He's a leader.

Coaching when his job was on the line and actually being aggressive before he got job security again.

So we see a distinct line drawn of what he is capable of and what he is normally. The line was drawn so well even goofs on here should be able to see it.

And this...

I've maintained, when his ass was put on the line, that was the only reason Riverboat ever became a thing.  He was a week, or maybe less, from losing his job, and he had nothing to lose, so he played to win.

But, then, when he gets some security and starts getting comfortable again, he tries to revert back to playing not to lose and micromanaging and bogging down the offense in the process.

Cam showed him up again in Philly once he was given autonomy over the offense, then the questions came, he felt a little heat again, and what do you know?  We come out aggressive and Cam running the offense uptempo.

So again, I give him credit for doing the right thing there...  but as others have mentioned, it's still an ugly truth that DJ and Curtis have been sitting behind Torrey all year, and once they're given extended opportunities in his absence, which took the decision out of Ron's hands, they also show him up.  That's why people criticize Ron.

Be aggressive.  Play the best players.  Be consistent...  that's all we ask.  And it's all we've been asking for years.

here i am.  i am so happily eating some words.  except, like someone said, it took injury to see curtis and dj.   that poo is excruciatingly fox-like.   all the same, i can't believe he let them play and have fun doing it.  i'm proud of rivera and pretty sure he read my posts and decided to prove me wrong (sarcasm).   like i said, i'm happy to be eating some words, not so glued to my opinion that i would rather the team fail than be wrong.  nervous he's gonna stick his nose in and fug it up, but enjoying the ride!

My goodness. I guess you meant that as some sort of apology, for previous Rivera criticism.  But taken as a whole, it's about the most narcissistic, "look at me, ma" stuff ever typed.

Hint for future posts: if you want to be taken seriously, don't use I/me/my 10 times in your writings.

When Rivera coaches smart for a whole season then let's revisit it.      If we finally have back to back winning seasons, we'll come back to this.   The game plan worked, but if it didn't, would you trust this team to make adjustments?  I don't.    And he still doesn't understand clock management or timeouts.     Still doesn't play the right people unless someone is hurt.    Watch Kalil take over for Clark immediately for example.      His teams love letting teams come back as well.      Do you fire someone mid-season?  No way.     And he may be better than available options anyway so we'll see.

Tell us what that “distinct” line is oh wise one. I just keep seeing wins. Or is there something else we are trying to accomplish here?

Ahh I see you joined in 2015 when we had our best season to date.

So go back and you start from D1S1 of the RR era and then when you're caught up go ahead and quote and answer your own post.

All of this is absolutely important for a winning team, but it doesn't mean anything if you blow it with questionable in-game decisions and terrible personnel decisions.  the game is won on the field in those 60 minutes - you play to win the game.  with that said, i hope yesterday is the start of a trend - aggressiveness all game on both sides of the ball until the other team quits. it was the only missing piece and if ron can maintain this mentality, this team is unstoppable.

Y'all quiet as a church mouse. 5-2

No one wants to fire Ron if we are playing at a high level that we should be doing. He finally put the correct people in game and didn' get to relaxed on offense in the 2nd half. That is all what we have asked for. To put them team in the best scenario to win. It is when in critical in game situational football when goes south. Yesterday was a breath of fresh air. We changed some things up on both sides of the ball. Maybe if he had done this sooner we may be 7 and 0. Let' see what happens from this point on cause Smith being hurt well no brainer.

So funny to see all the critics nitpick Rivera as if he is responsible good or bad for everything that happened. His job is to hire the best coaches he can find and let them do their job. His job is to manage the moving pieces and see that folks are doing their job and improve from week to week. In that regards he has done a great job.  Yesterday his staff orchestrated a complete game and it showed.  Decisions like who played how many snaps or even how prepared everyone was on a particular play is not his responsibility except in a global sense. He gets credit or criticism if things don't work but he doesn't micromanage at that level.  Overall he is doing a great job because he has the right people in place with Norv being a big part of that. Norv decided who got how many snaps on offense not Rivera. And since Norv is new, the old criticism of Rivera only playing vets is overblown. Apparently Norv thinks the same way as do most OCs. As I said last week, DJ will get more touches as he shows he can produce without turnovers and yesterday he did. So he will get more touches as he deserves. Players have to earn their minutes and DJ has done that now after imploding against Washington 2 weeks ago. As long as he keeps producing he is going to only be a bigger part of this offense. Can't wait to see how we play against Tampa.

And the whole Rivera should have had his coordinators going full strength from day 1 is ridiculous to be nice. We have new coordinators in all three phases of the game. And 2 of the 3 are first time coordinators. They are improving and learning who they have and who they can count on as their key personnel. This team is trending forward and improving each week. Props to Rivera to manage these pieces and the team to a 5-2 record so far. If Rivera's critics actually understood the coaching process they wouldn't make so many naive proclamations and comments.
