No. And like I said in my post just above yours, Hurney 1.0 poo'd the bed after round one in epic fashion. Sure there were a couple of that he hit on past the second round, but for the most part, damn...

Which is why the whole "well at least he hit on first rounders" argument is so silly.

The entire "Hurney wasn't so bad" argument always follows the same MO: highlighting of one or two successes while ignoring the big picture, i.e. his awful winning percentage.

It's just stupid.

The Hurndog hit big on top 10 picks, because he was a master of creating teams that annually drafted in those spots. 200 IQ drafting technique obviously.

Which is what some don't get.

"We got Cam Newton". Yeah, because we had the worst team in the league the year before. Similar to why we got Luke.

Kawann Short sound familiar?

Trai Turner?

Devin Funchess?

Darryl Williams?

James Bradberry?

Curtis Samuel?

Taylor Moton?

Alex Armah?

Harrison Butker?

There's also this guy named Norwell...he wasnt drafted but he kinda mattered. So did Philly Brown. Heck, even AJ Klein and Tre Boston contributed.

Two good picks in five years? Seriously, dude?

May have overstated a Bit lol

Minor related rant incoming:

i donk care if the guy had a single nice game or plays every now and then. Heck Kerry Colbert looked amazing in 2004 when Smith went down. And that dude sucked.

im talking who are real consistent contributors and starters?

Funchess has never been better than Ok, he wouldnt even see playing time on many teams.

And I’ve stated before I hold the opinion that our WR core is pure crap until they prove otherwise(DJ Moore aside). I’m tired of hearing about their potential without any results. If they got game they need to show it. Bottom line.

and Bradberry? He is just ok,  I hear every year how he is the training camp hero but he has good games then he has had some terrible games. And everyone and their grandmother knows Jackson is the better player already.

there is a difference between being drafted and seeing some time, being barely serviceable as a starter and actually contributing.

i honestly can’t think of another draft recently that I’m more excited about than the 2018 Draft class for us, we may have very seriously landed 3 starters, not just role players or depth but starters.

TLDR: op admits he exaggerated a bit, but also complains that there is a difference with being drafted and seeing some playing time and actually being a quality starter.

 He drafted 4 All-Pros. 3 OL.

His last draft includes CMC, Samuel, and Moton(next All-Pro)

And Funchess would start on many teams. You’ll find that out this off-season.

The 2014 draft looked amazing after 1 season. All starters. How’s that look now? And you’re bringing up 3 starters by including Ian Thomas as a starter. Only because of injury and he almost cost us a game. You’re going to blast Bradberry and prop up Thomas as a “hit”already. Can’t pick and choose a different criteria for each player to fit the narrative.

People thought he was an idiot for drafting Newton. Acting like he was a sure thing is discrediting both Rivera and Hurney for the time they put in scouting him.

I know Rivera told people at Auburn they were taking him at his Pro Day.

As if top 10 picks are guaranteed hits. The Jags, Browns, Raiders, etc. would be perennial Super Bowl contenders if that were the case.

He wasn't a consensus  #1 like Andrew Luck or Matthew Stafford. At one point all the mocks had us taking Nick Fairley #1 and it wasn't until it became obvious we were in love with him that the media locked him in at 1.

Don’t care when the media had him anywhere. Just stating that the decision was made in Rivera’s mind about 2 months beforehand. I assume Hurney agreed. Cause he wasn’t there.

Well, It’s hard to get a person to come on here and tell you what they said, but this should cover his thoughts at the time. Hurney never went to Auburn to look at Cam.

Rivera also recalled when he saw Newton before his pro day. As the coach sat in the stands, he watched as players gravitated toward Newton. Rivera knew that natural-born jerks didn't draw people to them like that, and his instincts were affirmed in pre-draft meetings.

When I asked Mike [Shula] why we should take Cam, he mentioned everything the kid had gone through," Rivera said, "He'd transferred from Florida, gone to junior college, and won the Heisman and national championship at Auburn. Mike said that through all that, the kid never broke down. If Cam could do that, he could handle being the No. 1 pick."

You don't think Hurney 1.0 did any scouting on Newton?

Cam Newton campaigned to draft McCaffrey. That pick was all Cam...

I said he never went to Auburn. That’s a Fact. Rivera decided. Hurney agreed. What’s the issue?

It’s not like there was a young QB(highly drafted) that was already on the roster taken by Hurney the year before. One that was so bad he was the reason you had a shot at Cam. Oh wait.....
