Cam Newton didn’t want to throw Hail Mary before halftime

I'm not worried about Cam's arm as he looked really good pretty much the whole game. I see it as him taking precaution especially since he was getting over that recent soreness in his shoulder that had him on out injury list a couple days ago. Honestly, I'm a little more concerned that Ron was content on just going into the half on the Hail Mary than he was with trying to give Gano a shot at adding points with the FG. I was pissed when I saw him purposely allow the delay of game. Last week I could see it due to the wind but it didn't look like the wind was that bad at that point. We got lucky that Olsen was open and got out of bounds or we might not have went into the half putting points on the board.

This is such a non story.

He hurt his shoulder, so deep throws arent going to happen right now.

I dont even see why we should need him for deep throws for any other reason than to make highlight reels.

He passed well and ran effectively today.

It honestly seems like this game played to Cams balances, with a touch of rhythm.

im also a little drunk so ill edit this later when i can figure out what i was trying to say

goddamn IPA

Gano himself said there was a wind which made a 60+ yard FG doubtful and Blackburn told Rivera that. So coach called for the hail mary. 50/50 chance for 3 points or 50/50 chance for 7 points? He made the best choice.

*Shrug* I just know that when they showed the goalpost flags they appeared to be blowing with the kick and slightly to the right unless I am mistaken. I guess maybe the rightwards wind was what they were afraid of but it didn't seem like it was that bad. I'm happy about the eventual out come that much is for sure. If anything that showed the awareness of both Heinicke to see Greg open and of course Greg for getting the yards and making it out with time still on the clock.

Still looks like he has a ton of zip on the ball to me. We've connected on more long passes in the last five quarters than probably the rest of the season combined. He's completing a career high percentage. On pace to throw for nearly 4000 yards.

Yeah, I'm not concerned in the least. His shoulder very well may have some lingering soreness and if that's the case it's probably smart not to uncork one at 110% for a very low percentage play.

While Cam doesn't appear to have lost anything on zip or distance when he throws them in such fashion, I almost made a thread after the game regarding his body language and how troubling it was to me...  no, not the media's version of body language, I'm talking about the non-verbal cues signaling pain.  Multiple times yesterday, Cam was grimacing, including one of those late scrambles where he dove forward and landed on his right shoulder.  He also was extremely slow getting up out of the huddle, which reminded me a lot of 2016 when he was super banged up.  I was in pain watching some of it, because of a similar injury I had...  it is absolutely miserable and debilitating.  I hope it isn't as bad as the last one.

I guess the concern of taking the deep ball out of the repertoire is that, if defenses figure out you will never throw 40+ yds it makes it easier for them to scheme.

I also notice him grimacing in pain yesterday a few times. It is possible that Cam is having a great performance while playing through pain. I just hope it’s nothing that won’t get better over time, or get worse as the season progresses. Where’s the bye week when you need it?

And now that i really think about it...  can anyone remember the last time Cam really aired one out since the surgery?

Again, from what I've seen of his velocity and the throws he still routinely hits on 20+ yards downfield, it doesn't appear he lost any arm strength, but these issues popping up in reports and his painful body language and gait yesterday really concern me.

Yeah, even if this wasn't reported about Heineke coming in, I still was concerned enough from what I saw that I planned on making a thread about it, I just didnt want to post anything of concern after such a positive win...

But, yesterday, Cam's demeanor reminded me so much of 2016 prior to it being revealed that he had been playing injured and needed surgery.  I felt his pain.  I had some sort of shoulder injury and played through it in JUCO, and that was basketball, not playing quarterback in the NFL in constant contact situations...  and I was fuging miserable.  I could barely lift my arm above my head....  anytime I threw a pass it burned for minutes after, I couldn't push against any force moving laterally from the inside to the outside without that same searing pain lasting minutes.  My whole arm was weaker in general, and all i did was grimace just like Cam, because I didn't want to lose any PT or take any time off, but I also didn't want anyone to know I was injured.  That's what Cam's body language reminds me of...  and on top of that, he is carrying us, as he always does, every week.  It's a huge burden to bear, but again, I'm hoping it's not as severe as the one from before and hopefully will resolve on its own with the lessened workload throughout the week, but man, is his body language concerning.  I really hope it isn't a long term issue and he's able to recover fully before the season's end.
