See 2004 - arguably Delhomme's best year. Pro Bowl and narrowly missed the playoffs - thanks defense. Oh yea, Steve Smith didnt play that year. Have to give JD some credit at least.

Moose had a lot to do with that.

Why did the bears passing game suck when he went there, shouldn’t of moose fixed it then by that logic?

jake had a good grip on Dan H.’s offense.  I don’t why we are down playing the second best QB in franchise history. He had some bad years, but 2004 was the best year of his career and it was without Steve Smith.  Our defense was middle of the road that year but we had a strong offense.

some of us have a bad taste in our mouth about jake because we were at the playoff game where he threw 5 picks against the cards at home.   but, 2003 was the most magical season ive ever experienced with this team.   i loved that team.    i'll always love jake.  he's my favorite panther qb ever.    took me a long time to forgive him though.  i love cam, but not like i loved jake.  everything about that cajun mother *********er.  and its not because jake is white dammit.

we are all greatful for Cam and know how lucky we are to have him but that don't take away the fact Jake was the man also in his prime and was a great leader to this team same as Cam is now.

I think Jake was a great emotional leader.  Especially pre Tommy John.  He never seemed to the have same magic after that.   I'm not just talking about his play but his vibe and energy never was the same IMO.   In some aspects, I liked the way Jake's leadership consistently came off vs Cam.

But Jake isn't even in the discussion IMO in terms if play at QB.  Cam is just in a different tier.  He puts the franchise on his back and they overall have invested very little into what has been around him.  He legitimately has been the actual MVP pretty much since he was drafted.  No team depends on one player more.

By what logic? Because Moose had one of his best seasons a year before and a contract year? Stop trying to make Delhomme out to be more than he was and that's a game manager.

The difference between Cam and Jake is that Cam is an athlete and is big strong and would excel in any sport. Jake wouldn't even stand out if you didn't know who he was. He was not athletic, couldn't run or elude anyone but he had magic ESP with Smitty and just could throw the ball where it needed to be until he shredded his arm. He won on desire and fire willing a victory. Cam on the other hand has the tools to excel and it took a few years for him to really come into his own.

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
