Uh oh, this is gonna cause some mass confusion amongst a portion of the Carolina fan-base:

when it comes to Reid vs the players coalition and all this nonsense.  I'm sure the real truth is somewhere in the middle most likely.  Usually is.  I would wager Reid and guys like Jenkins all could of done better.

I've said before I'll let Reid and Jenkins settle this or not settle this between themselves.  One thing is for sure, this money going to all kinds of charities (which won't change anything anyway) was something to stop the protest.  It was no small thing knowing the NFL owners want everyone to stand for the anthem.  They offered this money in hopes the players would stop their protest.  It was even reported that Jenkins would stop his protest with this deal.

Quote

Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins does not plan to protest during the national anthem before Sunday's game at the Seattle Seahawks.

Jenkins revealed his intention after the NFL and the Players Coalition, which Jenkins co-founded, joined in a partnership that calls for the league to contribute $89 million over seven years to projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.

So when Reid calls him a sellout, I imagine this had to do with it.  I advise Josh Norman and everyone else to stay out of this.  Let them settle their disagreements.

Josh Norman is actually part of the Coalition.   It isn't like he is just randomly commenting.

also, pretty sure Reid himself made comments about not kneeling too and made that known at one time.  He talked about needing to evolve past that.   I'd at least factor that in when bashing Jenkins for it.

Reid talked about not kneeling, but not as a result of an offer.  Of course when it actually comes to the protest, personally, I want it to continue.  I want Reid to keep speaking on the issues.  As for Jenkins, again I'll let them settle that.  There is dispute on whether Jenkins discussed the deal to the other players before deciding on it.  There was a divide within the coalition at that time, as Reid wasn't the only one who broke from it.

Sounds like Eric Reid called Malcolm Jenkins a sellout because he actually sold out for a donation to his charity in exchange for no longer kneeling. That's a betrayal, and I can see why he'd be angry.

in fairness, have you heard any actual side of the situation that wasn't Eric Reid's position on what happened?

just sayin...

lot of good dudes on that coalition.

and all I am saying is you are just hearing one person's side.  Eric Reid's.  My whole comment was really the truth in general is more than likely somewhere in the middle of two sides.  I just don't see how you can jump to Eric Reid's side being the golden truth....when there are so many legit good dudes part of that coalition.

Eric Reid also....was telling his side....when he clearly didn't have his emotions under control.  He called out Jenkins in front of a locker he literally destroyed in anger.  Probably wasn't the best time for him to lay out the story IMO.

Of course there are. Whenever there's an opportunity to give back or to increase donations to your charity, the good guys are going to come out for it. The issue I think Eric Reid has is that this money was offered and accepted with strings attached. Matthias is right. While the money going to the charities is good, it doesn't actually solve the problem they're trying to address. The NFL essentially bought their compliance, and that's what's infuriating to Reid.

I'm not taking sides as I said I'll let them settle that.  I do know when it comes to the money, the owners weren't giving that just because they felt like it.  They weren't making any concessions because they feel its the right thing to do.  These guys are viscous in terms of money.  If they are giving money, its because they intend on something being done.  In this case, they intended to stop the anthem protest.  The evidence is Malcolm Jenkins ending his protest right after the deal.  Amid the disputes, I take the actions into great consideration.

working with anyone, generally involves some form of give and take.  I mean there is some reality to that.

I think it can legitimately be asked if Reid really has any interest in working with anyone like the NFL to begin with.  I still think there is decent odds Eric Reid might be overselling what sellout Jenkins and company might be.  Again, he was IMO an emotional wreck as well this past week when he laid out that out on Jenkins.  Probably was a better time for him to go after Jenkins than that IMO.
