Rivera wants to try to force a square peg into a round hole. A lot of the slow rolling complaints we had under Shila carry over to Norv. It's time to just understand that this snail paced offense is what he wants. He wants a clock grinding ball control offense, but we don't have the personnel for it. The personnel is built to play fast and get chunk yardage.

The offense feels different this year.  Newton is stepping up into the pocket more, and it feels like he's still getting comfortable there.  He likes room to run, but I think this change was necessary for our line situation.   Our run game feels like it has opened up.  That last quarter we showed we can pass.  It just doesn't seem that a huddle or taking 30sec between snaps needs to break all that.  Dropped passes, high throws,  hopefully will subside.

Exactly 100%... Rivera needs to help Washington with the defense and let Norv run the show on offense.  Cam has proven this year, especially over the last 3 games, that he is comfortable and capable running a wide open, pass-centric attack.

Yep.  We have the pieces to run a wide open offensive attack.  I understand going no-huddle as the base offense is maybe not sustainable, but what happened to doing more of what we did in 2015 when we consistently got to the line with 15+ seconds on the play clock?    That allowed Cam to make adjustments, change the play, etc.

Cam has earned the right to do this.  The most underrated part of Cam's game is his mental prowess in surveying defenses and making the right read.  He misses some throws, but it is almost always due to shoddy mechanics rather than not understanding where the ball needs to be.

We’re also 12th in points per drive which is more indicative of a how an offense is performing.

You can’t score if you don’t have the ball and for the most part we don’t have the ball as much as our opponent does. In fact we are 17th in time of possession and 22nd in defensive drive success rate.

Furthermore our offense actually gains 33.94 yards per drive (ranked 14th), our defense gives up 33.88 yards per drive (ranked 20th).

This past weeks game just happened to have a horrible combination of offensive and defensive failures (in quarters one through three) but overall the defense has been an issue more than the offense.

6 games in, and we're in Shula territory with a lot more WR weapons and an upgrade at running back.  The Oline is not performing that much different than last year.  Why?

Okay but they still can't get off the field 

Last week against the Redskins they didn't give up a bunch of points, but the Redskins still had a lot of long, clock eating drives. We had three offensive drives in the second half. Of course, the Redskins are also built for that, they're one of the best clock managing teams in the NFL. That's what Alex Smith is good at.

The reason we were able to comeback this week is because our defense was finally able to get off the field.

I'm glad we haven't been giving up points as much, that's a step up from the form show in the Falcons and Giants games.

Once they can stop drives more consistently, we'll be golden.
