Clete Blakeman doesn’t know what a catch is.

I think the biggest issue and why it continue to be an issue is that for the rules of the game, you have to strictly define it. I think we all pretty much know a "catch" when we see one, the problem arises when a "catch" that pretty much everyone in the bar would agree is a catch doesn't meet the definition per the rules book and I don't think we'll ever have rules where that doesn't occur.

This particular replay issue is a totally different one IMO. The evidence has to be conclusive. It wasn't conclusive, so by rule you have to stick with the call on the field. Had it been ruled incomplete and we challenged, it should've stayed incomplete. There was no conclusive view of that play that showed one way or the other.

Right.  Watching the replay there’s no way you can tell me that you see a point where that ball touched the ground.  Especially considering how long they reviewed it for.

It feels like they like to move the goal posts when it’s convenient.  If they would’ve called it incomplete and we lost a challenge I would understand.  There’s NO WAY they should’ve overturned that call but..

Blakeman is already infamous for his atrocious call in the Super Bowl on Cotchery’s catch. Ruled incomplete because there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it, Blakeman said.

Today, very similar situation with the Reid INT. Except this time it was called an interception on the field. Ball never obviously hits the ground, doesn’t appear to move. Call was an interception should stay an interception then, right? Wrong. Blakeman overturns an INT because....I honestly don’t know. He doesn’t know what a catch is. Maybe he secretly hates the Panthers.

Clete might hate the panthers, but it's clear Charles Davis reeeeeeeeeeally hates us. So fuging biased and aggressive during this replay call. This was a pick, luckily it all worked out. Maybe Davis hates Eric Reid then.

I think that Eric Reid dropping to one knee to intercept a ball thrown by a white quarterback would have been awesome, but the NFL would have had him come up again nationally and they didn't want that. That call took so long to figure out I was sure they were going to keep it as called and can't come up with a better explanation of why it took so long. There definitely was not evidence to overturn either way the call could have been made on the field.

It would not surprise me if sometime in the future an NFL ref writes a tell all book that includes a chapter about how a catch is really a judgement call but they were too afraid to admit it so they just went with vague, floating rules.

This play happened at the end of the Bucs game and was ruled a catch on the field and was not overturned. Tell me Reid’s pick had more evidence than this in the replay, you couldn’t even see the nose of the ball on his pick, though you know it did hit the ground because you know how big a football is. But the ball didn’t move at all when it hit the ground. Pathetic call.

You can't see the tip of the ball but my thought is the explanation if there is ever one given will be, he had control when the tip appeared to touch the ground judging by the size of the ball, but he didn't retain the grip while he rolled over and didn't maintain possession.

That said, didn't see the tip of the ball, can't overturn the call on the field. Eat a bag of dicks with some curly fries NFL review guy.

I'm still fuging pissed about this

I'm still pissed mainly because it was the same jackass ref that couldn't overturn Cotchery's catch in the Superbowl because there "wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call on the field" but an almost identical play happens again, to the Panthers, but this time there's enough evidence to overturn the call. Blakeman either hates the Panthers, or was told by the NFL to overturn the call because it was Eric Reid or they wanted to extend the game by another play to give the bigger fanbase of Philadelphia a much needed win. Either way it was a total bitch move and obvious bullshit. I hope he never referees another Panthers game for the rest of his life.

Again, do realize New York makes the review decision? Blakeman and his crew called it a catch. He had nothing to do with the overturn.
