What is wrong with Kawan Short?

I have been very critical of Shirt this season because besides the Cowboys game he has been god awful this year on passing downs and I feel he  is a major reason on D line has looked so damn bad. I know a lot of people have been bashing Poe but Poe's job is to eat a double team to allow the guys around him to make plays and he has been doing it fairly well. It doesn't help that the guy next to him is getting blocked out of players by one man every other down. I will say Short had his best game today since week 1 but he was still pretty damn for what we are used to.

This play is a perfect example of why I have been so critical of Short. Where the fug is the push? He can't even move his man 1v1 and gets blocked in place for the entirety of the play. I mean look at the size of that pocket. It's a Joke that our 60 million dollar pass rushing DT can't move his guy in a crucial situation in the game. Luckily Wentz threw into double coverage. Their left guard fuging stonewalled him. On the final player with peppers strip sack, the runs into the center gets zero push, moves to the right and has zero impact on the play.

He needs to step the fug up and collapse pockets like we are paying him to do.

Thats what is wrong with these big guaranteed contracts--

fat and happy,..not hungry anymore.  His play will magically reappear when its time to get a new contract.

Yeah that also happened to Cam, Luke, Olsen, TD, Kalil, Double Trouble, CJ, etc. Along with every other player in the NFL who has ever gotten paid and continued to play at a high level.

This is such a fuging moronic line of thinking.

Hes signed until he's 33. There are no more big money contracts in Short's future. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if next season is his last in Charlotte. We can save $10M in cap space by cutting him after next season. If he's no longer a high impact player I'm not sure that we can justify his $18M cap hit. Either way, I very seriously doubt he'll see the final year of his contract even if we keep him through two more seasons. We could save $14.5M (vs. an $18.5M cap hit) by releasing him prior to his final season.

I don't think he's necessarily been bad, but he certainly hasn't been the disruptive force that we're paying him to be and need him to be.

Start a thread with negative overtones. Opens the door for negative responses.

Rivera stated that KK, who is our highest rated linemen, is doing so because of Poe. But the Huddle says they both such. Whom to believe.

We have all these holes. Yet we are 4-2. Something is wrong here.

Dang. Yeah, it might not be smart to hitch your wagon to a KK will end his career as a Panther train. He will have to restructure, or something, to lower that cap hit. Or it will be difficult to keep him. That's for sure.

Coaches see the whole process, fans just see the results. The results from the DT position simply haven't been there. It's why Star was always underappreciated. He wasn't a playmaker, but he was a great facilitator. He ate uonsoace and occupied blocks which allowed others to make the plays and rack up the stats.

Which is pretty much what Poe is doing.

Could also explain why they draft that DT from what? Florida State? Kendricks, or something? Maybe as insurance. Let the kid develop over a couple of years. Then count on him when we let KK go?

    Speculation at its finest.

Who do I believe. PFF, or the Huddle. Cuz one of them is wrong.

Not necessarily always true. Ron took a shot at PFF ratings himself last week. The problem I have with PFF is that they try to review every player on every play and without definitively knowing the play call that's pretty much impossible. They have to infer about that very critical piece of information.

    • Happy Thanksgiving y’all. Thankful for a very good team and for this group to talk canes.  Eat drink celebrate our win bs the rags. This team is cup ready.
    • I don't think should be seen as an insult, legitimately. Teddy's floor was consistently a good game manager to his ceiling of border-line top 10 QB who's arm strength didn't blow you away but could make all the throws and generally made good decisions and had some sneaky athleticism.  Teddy started on quite a few teams. He had a good start to his career, had a horrific injury that could have ended his career, came back and played himself into being a starter, got a contract here (and subsequently became another victim of Tepper's impetuousness), and then started games for a few other teams. Teddy could have been a franchise QB had he not suffered a freak injury, and then he just never ended up in another stable situation. He still had a good NFL career that could have been great without that injury. Teddy before that injury did look like a franchise QB, and I dont think that's a bad comp for Young nor an insult in terms of what his career could be based on that comparison.
    • Absolutely the wrong take. We have to run and gun. We have zero post presence. We just have to make shots. We just can't hit water from a boat tonight and we're turning it over to boot. Then you have a poor shooting opponent shooting lights out.  Looks like a long season ahead of us though if Hubert doesn't adapt to this roster. We have to play a pressure trapping D and get out in transition because we aren't beating anyone in the half court.
