Reid calls Jenkins a “sellout”

Smith and Jenkins and Norman and the Coalition Board are the ones deserving of support

they are bring real issues forward and should be heard...and they are being heard

So why are we discussing them in a thread about Reid? If anything Reid and Kap are sparking a discussion. A discussion that makes people uncomfortable, and that unfortunately is how things get done. Freedoms are never given if you ask nicely.

But i understand Reid's issue.  To me, it appears Jenkins took advantage of the movement they started and pulled a power move after co-opting it...  but, then after all of the crap the owners said and did towards the players, especially Kap and Reid, Jenkins basically sided with Goodell and the owners, leaving the movement Reid and Kap started completely forgotten in the process.  The coalition was supposed to help come up with a solution to the protests and also negotiate an initiative or plan to continue to give the players a voice while putting awareness of the issues they were protesting at the forefront all while finding ways to do so without offending others with protests (which is already aimed at satisfying conservative white viewers/fans).  They did neither and Jenkins refused to include Kap, who lost his job as a result of the protests.  He sold out and used the opportunity to advance himself, not the movement, and he basically acted as a double-agent, imo, buddying up with Goodell and quieting the protesting players.

I definitely understand why Reid feels the way he does about Jenkins and I have no issues with him having words with him during warm-ups which evidently he did. The only issue I have is letting that spill over into grandstanding during the kickoffs to get in the spotlight on TV and creating a distraction for the team right before kickoff. That kind of stuff doesn't need to be happening.

Exactly, and from that article and some of his comments since signing with the team, Reid seems like he isn't about that life. It seems like he wanted himself or Kap to be the leader when they don't seem to have the ability to lead in the way the movement needed to actually get stuff done in a positive direction with the league.

Whether he wants to admit it or not, Jenkins has turned the entire situation into a positive forward movement that has gotten the league's pocket books involved in a positive and progressive direction for change.

I strongly disagree. The only reason we are discussing this now is because of Reid and kap. This thread wasn’t about Jenkins and his contributions. I’m sure plenty of atheletes have their own funded programs to help give back and the cause. But kap and Reid put this on the national scale, cased outrage and drew the eye of the president.

That exposure and level of impact on society is much more meaningful than some thousands or a few million dollars helping the few who are privliaged enough for those funds to reach them. The goal is global change. And I see Reid and kap teaching the highest office in the land and making one of the biggest companies in the world back them(Nike) you tell me who has had a bigger or more meaningful impact?

I can somewhat agree...

I'm sure Reid has Jenkins number or at worst could get it if he truly wanted to talk with him about his issue. Bringing it on the field was him just trying to get attention again. This behavior if left unchecked will continue to grow. No one man is bigger than the team.

This is just my opinion on the matter coming up, but to me Reid and Kap's ego took over and instead of embracing the positivity that was coming from it, they threw fit that they're protest rang true in different ways with different people. To me they are coming across as selfish in the whole matter because they aren't getting the credit and they aren't able to dictate what everyone else is going to do with their own voices, when guys like Jenkins and other supported them using their own.

Positivity? The league passed a rule strictly prohibiting kneeling without even consulting the players. That blew up in their faces and they had to abandon it. You really think they care about bettering the inequality in these communities? Teams have to be paid by the government just to show off patriotism. What world are you living in?

Your at all costs intent on vilifying Kaepernick and Reid because they don't grovel the way you would like them to is reminiscent of some Jim crow era rhetoric tbh, and it's quite ugly. If you insist on injecting yourself into this conversation, please educate yourself.

If the goal is change, then I would argue that Jenkins and the coalition have provided more ACTIVE contributions to the change that Kap and Reid have wanted as opposed to the PASSIVE change Reid and Kap have started.

By that I mean Kap and Reid brought the issue to the masses and that's great on them. They've also done their own individual thing to help their cause. But they are just two guys that can only do so much. Jenkins and the coalition attempted to make it a bigger thing with a wider net to help in other areas.

Again, that's just how I see it.

Jenkins is being more political about it, rubbing elbows with those that can do the most to effect the greatest number. Reid and Kap are hyperfocused on one area and don't seem to want to budge, even if giving up some ground would enact some progress of any kind. I can respect that because that's their view and those are their principals. BUT, I believe that their failure to incorporate the other players and their views on the situation is leading to further divide for their cause when it could be more inclusive and help more charities even if theirs takes a hit.
