It's cool you want to dismiss that teams are dinking us to death, just to keep your tired rhetoric alive? That fact does hurt your argument.

At the beginning of the year, most folks thought our Dline was going to be pretty good. KK, and Poe wreaking havoc up the middle. Allowing Pep, Addy, Horton, and maybe one of the kids to get after the QB. On paper, that looked like a solid group.

Evidently the opposition felt the same way. Because every team we have played, well, except Dallas that is, has dinked, and dunked us to death. The very best way to counter a good pass rush? Quick passes.

I mean, we get it. You love you some Kraken. And it's fine if you want to fight that battle until the very end. I mean, if it weren't' so sad, it wouldn't be so funny. But you have to see the irony in calling others nincompoops?

Dont mind him, he is just touting his pro Hardy arguement.  The CFL doesnt even want him.  Im begining to think @Nails first name is Greg

The CFL can’t be bigger hypocrites than the NFL, the media, the Panthers, and Panther fans.  Those shamelessly hypocritical cards were laid on the table when he was vociferously cheered while whipping (in the football sense) Eric Fisher during a nationally televised preseason game vs the Chiefs at BOA in August 2014, and helped secure a road division win at Tampa in September 2014.

I also advocated Derek Barnett (stud) with the #8 overall pick in 2017.

Given that the one and only goal is to win the ring, no Panther fan with a clue could feel good about this DE group.

He's looked okay but is 38 and may not be as effective as he used to be.

Addison is on the other side but we're rotating in Horton and Obada in their places and sliding KK out some.  Horton is probably the best run-defender (maybe Pep at 38) which is so not ideal.

Addison can only do so much for the player that he is but then we need better compliments.

Snap wise is important here:

Horton actually has dropped in snap count.  Games 1-2 were both over 40 with the last 3 all being under 30.  Week 5 at 19.

Do you know who went from the mid 20s to 35+ after the first two games? Peppers.

So, Horton was lowered so that we could also rotate in Obada.  Peppers went up dramatically.

Teams are getting the ball out early, everyone including the coaches know this. Haven’t got to watch much football yet so are the corners sitting on short routes? Doesn’t seem like it with all the success teams have had so far

they're still giving 10 yards cushion

I think agr has finally caught up to him

last week i think was the first week we took him off a snap count, so maybe those numbers will go up

I'm sure age is some of it but also there are also some analytics at play here.

Someone on this forum(I wish I could remember who) posted some stats a while back that showed that Peppers converted an abnormally high percentage of his pressures into sacks last year.  Based on that alone people should have expected some regression as far as the sack numbers go.

I will admit having only one is surprising but nobody should be shocked the numbers are lower than last year.

Maybe he is converting an abnormally low of percentages of pressures this year, whereas last year it was abnormally high.  Maybe he is getting close to the same amount of pressure as last year.  I'm sure someone with PFF would have a better idea of that.

Either way I do agree that we need an influx of younger talent on the defensive line.  Missing on the Hall pick definitely has hurt.

Most anyone who has followed football for a while figured this would be the likely case this season.

Regression was almost inevitable.

People who would've thought this would have said the same thing last year... and it again wouldn't have been true.  Peppers is playing very well - just hasn't gotten home as much.

I don’t get why since we know teams are gonna dink and dunk us with short passes we don’t start crowding the middle with more guys. Let the corners play deep and put the safeties in the box. I’m kinda sick of seeing Reid drop back so far he leaves the screen. We’re basically playing with 10 guys at that point.

if the pass rush can get home with another second or two, why not force them to give us that?

Peppers' has had 1 season with less than 7 sacks.  In 2016 he had 7.5....him getting to 7-9 sacks last year was a pretty good bet.

He will likely end this season with 7-9 sacks, and that would be about right.  He's had 11 or more sacks 7 times out of 16...last year in his 16th season he had one of those.

That's not normal, and not really sustainable.
