David Newton thinks Torrey trade really worked out

So 5 for 43 with a long of 12 and a short TD is a good game for you? Damn, get out of the 80s bro.

Dude. His TD catch was for 5 yards. And the 2 point conversion was for 3. Why must everything be so cut and dried with you. Everything sux. No body worth a damm. You must be miserable this year. And we are still 3-2.

Based on this, what you're saying, is the guy getting paid $5 mil was good at literally doing the bare minimum of catching a ball after a short jog? That's what I saw. #tradethiswaste

You see what you want to see. You don't like Torrey, so everything he does is minimized. It is alright to be unhappy. But you still need to be realistic on what you see. Giving someone credit for having a good game is not going hurt you.

But hey, that won't fit into this neat little package you have made for yourself. Whatever it is you got going is making you miserable. It is only football dude. LIghten up.

Also this isn’t the Saints, eagles or rams. All teams struggle with pressure to the qb, it’s pretty normal except the few elite olines. Gotta make plays regardless.

What does that even mean. Who is not making plays? Are you talking anyone in particular, or just everyone in general. Cuz I have seen a bunch of crappy azz plays this year. But I have also seen way more good plays.

Cam is having a really good statistical year. But our Offense is struggling. How do you explain that? If our Oline is playing above average, then who is to blame?

Newton probably thinks that Kalil should get his starting job back too

We are paying turnstile a poo ton of money. Might as well put him on the field, and get our monies worth. Fug Cam. If he was so great, he would be leading us to the promised land. And he ain't. Hellz, I could probably lead the Huddles to a victory over this team. Losers

Norv found a glitch in the Skins defense.  Torrey was not being covered by anyone of consequence.  We have people who can catch the short to intermediate balls--he needs to be deep sea fishing, not wading near the shore.

He was being covered by Josh Norman quite a bit.

You're right, no one of consequence.

lol pff. Maybe they look above average b/c the pass plays are quick or cam is scrambling

Cam’s never scrambling much lol he’s just been one of the best in the league at managing the pocket and maneuvering himself in it. That’s why the olines also been looking decent. Not really bc of scrambling imo.

You can't really judge the trade on how Worley is doing versus how Smith is doing.

The real question is has Torrey been worth $5m a year?  Keep in mind that puts him as the 10th highest cap hit on the team this year.

Lol

Who fuging cares.

Fans get so wrapped up in what a player is getting paid. Here is the reality, they're all over paid.

Get over it already.

Finally. Someone gets to the real issue. The trade was fine. No loss, no risk. And you have an insurance policy in case a WR gets injured or isn’t ready. But the best thing was that 5M contract with NO dead money. And we tossed it away.

When it became apparent that Smith would eventually be the 4th-5th option at WR, he should have been cut before the season. Then offer him 2M to come back if he doesn’t find a better fit elsewhere. It’s a question of value. And we threw 3-4M out by not cutting him. A complete lack of understanding of building a roster with a salary cap.

Most people don't realize that the vast majority of NFL rosters are made up of guys making less than $1,000,000.  Anybody making more than $5,000,000 is really one of your "big money" guys.

Think about it this way.  If I told anyone on this forum that they could build a roster from scratch but they can only have 10 players that make more than $5m a year.  Would they sign Smith?

I think sometimes GMs are more comfortable paying these 3-8m salaries than they are paying really huge money, >$10m, to really good players.  When if fact a lot of these 3-8m guys give you replacement level production.

Some people say "its only $4m" but if you can get that same production for $800k, that is substantial, especially when you multiply it by several players.  That allows you to sign that expensive player that actually does give elite production.

I mean he did have a solid game vs the Skins. He’s also a good veteran leader that this team needs. Didn’t we trade Worley for him? I’d say it worked out too if thats the case.

Torry had an excellent game against the skins, while Samuel had less than a handful of snaps.  Torry finally showed something 5 games in and probably played a role in bringing Reid to us.  If Reid works out and Torry keeps up the production then all is good.  My guess, Smith won't be renewed next year.
