David Newton thinks Torrey trade really worked out

Like I said when it happened, trading Worley was addition by subtraction. It got him out of the way. If he was still here, would anyone be surprised if Ron was still starting him over Jackson?

The only downside to the trade is that I'm starting to feel the same way about Torrey. Feels like his presence on game day is starting to get in the way of getting younger, better players on the field.

I remember the media was blasting us for sending a good young CB to Philly in exchange for Torrey Smith. A few weeks later, the Eagles signed Mike Wallace to replace Torrey and everyone was blowing Howie Roseman for apparently fleecing the Panthers.

On April 15, Worley was released by the Eagles after he was arrested stemming from an altercation with the cops.

Mike Wallace did not have a catch in 2 games before being placed on IR.

Oh, and nice use of the English language there as well.

So Worley actually ended up on the Raiders and became active for the first time this past Sunday against the Seahawks and played all but 2 of the Raiders snaps on defense and had an interception, but he was also reportedly beaten down the field with some regularity which sounds very familiar.

Off the field I'd say he worked out. But on the field......not so much

I would say on the field it worked out pretty good as well considering Philly cut Worley like 2 weeks later.  It's very possible he would have been cut here as well considering he was to hungover to play in the playoff game last year.  It's better to have something rather than nothing.

Best case scenario Torrey Smith gives some quality intel on the Eagles offense that leads to a win

He had two dump off receptions.

You just make this shiit up as you go along don't you?

He had 5 catches, on 5 targets. Good for 2 1st down, a TD, and a 2 point conversion. And actually, since his TD grab against the Giants, has not dropped a pass.

Stick to the facts. Otherwise you got nothing,

Without actually opening up the offense with passing more we will never know what he is. I mean it's not like we pass all that much for him to be good or bad.

I mean he did have a solid game vs the Skins. He’s also a good veteran leader that this team needs. Didn’t we trade Worley for him? I’d say it worked out too if thats the case.

Norv found a glitch in the Skins defense.  Torrey was not being covered by anyone of consequence.  We have people who can catch the short to intermediate balls--he needs to be deep sea fishing, not wading near the shore.

I feel like Torrey takes snaps from Moore and Samuel and gives Ron an excuse to do so which I really don’t like.

He did well in one game this year but had some really bad ones too. I expected more from him as a vet and as someone Ron puts out there over the number 1 wr taken in the draft and Samuel.

I don’t feel like he should be played as much and I wouldn’t say the move was great for those reasons but at the same time he is insurance and we didn’t give up much for him so the faults are more on the way the coaches play him than the move itself.

It’s still early though, and if he can make plays like the Redskin game and NOT play like he did early in the season while not taking experience from the young guys I’m good with it.
